The City Ticket For Mayor: E. C. BRATCHER 31 votes; J. A CUMMINS 24 votes For Marshal: D. C. CARPENTER 28 votes; S. J. SHAW 24 votes For Recorder: W. E. WILLIAMS 28 votes; W. J. CLOWDUS 21 votes For Assessor: OTTO DULANEY 36 votes For Treasurer: SEYMORE OGILVIE 30 votes W. L. CORNISH and F. M. TAYLOR, each received several votes, yet they both positively refused to serve in case they were elected, hence we do not give the number of votes they received. Aldermen: DR. M. BRADSHAW 30; G. W. THOMPSON 29; T. J. DULANEY 33; S. S. SHAW 29; J. J. CLOUGHLEY 29; J. L. MCKASSON 24; W. P. EARLS 24; W. W. DULANEY 44; CLARK SMITH 28; S. P. TUCKER 13; A. M. DULANEY 15. The election of our city officers now is over and every one who wishes to do right will join in helping them enforce the laws. We were well pleased with our old officers who were nice gentlemen, but as they have been in office two or three terms, we thought a change proper. Our new mayor is a good man and will make us a good mayor. He is against gambling and those High Healed Hoedowns which are disgracing our little town. I am glad he is against low graded things. We need gentlemen for officers as well as private citizens, and certainly no good citizen would endorse a low down-thievish gambling den. Cornish Is On the Line A report reached this office this week that the Rock Island Railroad Co. was ready to complete its Enid and Anadarko branch from Waurika to Ardmore. Cornish is located about midway on the proposed new line. The grading is completed to Hewitt 20 miles this side of Ardmore and about two miles of the track on the same and will be finished in the course of a few months. NATHAN ALRED, D. L. GRAHAM and another gentleman have moved G. A. REED and family back to Ryan where Mr. Reed will again enter the newspaper business. Local Page MR. DAVIDSON, farming north of Cornish, was in today and stated he had planted 100 acres of corn. C. A. YOUNGBLOOD was here organizing a Modern Woodmen lodge. It is reported by good authority that the Missouri Pacific Railroad Company will begin a survey through this section in side of a few days. J. A. DAVIDSON, H. S. OGLVIE, and J. D. INGRAM held the editor up Saturday and paid for a full year subscription for the Journal. Those the kid of men we need on our list. SAM THOMPSON, CALL LANKFORD, TOBY GIBSON, BURT ASHBURN went to Addington. LUTE JACKSON is building a new house. MR. MCMURTRY has completed his residence. ELDER J. T. RAY of Marietta was a caller at this office Saturday evening; he is agent for the JOHN A. DIXON Publishing Co. W. C. HOGAN will be the local agent for this place. JOHN H. TAYLOR was in Cornish Saturday. L. D. GRAHAM was a pleasant caller at our office this afternoon. G. W. THOMPSON will preach at the Christian Church Sunday. B. RAY BEEMAN has arrived at the office and will join the Journal printing force and we look for a great improvement in the Journal. Mr. Beeman comes with a splendid recommendation with 11 or 12 years experience in the printing business, and is prepared to do any kind of job printing. Mr. BEEMAN is a Christian man and says he is well pleased with our very beautiful little town and thinks this will be his future home. J. W. BECKHAM and WILLIE SHAW are doing the Journal press work this week. MR. DAVIDSON of Cornish and MR. TANDY of Lone Grove were callers at this office Saturday. A new mercantile company will likely erect a large brick building near this office in the near future. The loss of the land office, a destructive hail storm, a cyclone, then a disastrous fire within two weeks is the hard luck record of Tishomingo. We extend our sympathy with the suggestion that the enterprising citizens of the capital of the Chickasaw Nation concentrate their efforts to develop the water power of the Pennington Creek, the granite quarries close by, and the fertile valleys adjacent. Then a permanent prosperity will come to them and the historic town will be second to none in the Washita Valley. Printed in the Muskogee Phoenix. ELDER A. J. ROWEN gave a fine lecture here Sunday night on intemperance and will preach here the fourth Sunday of this month on "what must I do to be saved." ELDER GARVIN, Missionary for the Mullens Association of the Baptist Church, preached at the Cornish school house Friday night, will preach at Red Oak Saturday night and at Ingram Lane school house Sunday. W. J. BOWDRY, druggist, and DR. DOSSY (DOSSEY) of Marietta are prospecting and express themselves as believing Cornish to have the brightest future. It is reported at this office that certain town parties have bought the HUGH KERLEY property for the purpose of running a gambling hall and saloon. Now boys, you know J. B. JONES has just returned from South McAlester where he delivered a horse thief, and we people of Cornish have just as much love and respect for a horse thief as we have for a gambling- saloon-keeping-thief. P. T. HAMILTON, lawyer at Tishomingo, is locating here.. Mr. Hamilton says that is not a better section in the Chickasaw Nation than Cornish. FARMER EASON was in town Saturday. GREEN BAUCOM was in town today. ALBERT MOORE, JOH HARVELL, HANK DULANEY, BENNIE BECKHAM, DR. L. B. SUTHERLAND, E. C. BRATCHER, E. F. MORGAN went to Ardmore this week. MR. One more week of sunshine, and the farmers and making good use of it, finishing planting cotton and plowing corn. The corn is looking well but is somewhat late. J. G. DIXON and G. L. TYSON visited Graham Saturday night. PROF. OXFORD of Healdton was a pleasant caller here Sunday. ROBERT TYSON and NEWTON MOORE visited Healdton Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. GROVE CHASE attended church at Healdton. A singing was given Sunday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. DIXON, which was enjoyed by all who attended. JOHN SCHAEFFER spent Sunday in Healdton. The women of this community enjoyed themselves today at a quilting given by MRS. J.A . BROWNING. Health is generally very good. Written by W. N. MOORE WILLIAM HACKLER and his young wife started to their home in Texas Tuesday. Local and Personal MR. ODDOM was in town shopping this week. E. C. MORRIS has an opportunity to stretch himself full length on mother earth and rest his tired bones since the rain. DR. PANNELL of Ardmore has shipped his tools and instruments to this place and will open business in a few days. He will office in DR. L. B. SUTHERLAND's drug store. SAM LANE of Lane Brothers Grocery Firm at Ardmore was in Cornish a few days. MR. BOWMAN, traveling salesman for a wholesale grocery firm of Pauls Valley, was in our town looking around. JOHNNY DULANEY is building a new business house east of City Drug Store. B. RAY BEEMAN went to see his wife this week. GEROGE TYSON of Chagris was here Tuesday and took $100 stock in a joint stock company which was formed here. He purchased block 38 which will be laid off in business lots and sold. Mr. Tyson is well pleased with Cornish and will likely invest largely here. BEN BECKHAM, ALBERT MOORE, PONY CARPENTER, B. F. ASHBURN, and UNCLE JOE MOORE went to Ardmore this week. SEYMOUR OGILVIE (spelling three different ways in this paper) and TOBE GIBSON went to Addington. J. T. DULANEY returned from a trip in Oklahoma. The marriage of CLAUDE WILKERSON and MISS JENNIE HARGIS Tuesday night of this week was quite a surprise to the people of Cornish. We wish them the best of good fortune and a long, happy, profitable life. May God's blessings ever go with them. A cyclone struck Snyder in Scurry County, Texas Thursday and killed 25 or 30 persons. GARVIN earnestly requests every lover of God in an around Cornish to lend their assistance in the meeting at the tabernacle. T. J. DULANEY has bought E. C. BRATCHER's interest in the hardware firm of BRATCHER & DULANEY and will assume all of Mr. Bratcher's obligations. REV. JESSE J. WARD of Alma has promised to come next Monday and assist BRO. NEWTON to MISS SADIE HILL, the writer officiating. Among those present at this occasion were Mr. and Mrs. CHASE and family, Mr. and Mrs. GREENWOOD of Chagris, ERNEST ATKINS of Ardmore, LEWIS MEANS of Cornish, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. HAMMONS and family, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. NEWTON and family, GEORGE GRANT and Mr. WHEELER all of Red Oak, MRS. GARVIN and children of Marlow. This was one of the prettiest wedding the writer ever attempted and one of the loveliest couples he ever married. Mr. ED also left more in the preacher's hands by way of appreciation, than any young man we have ever married. If this couple does as well as they look, success is theirs. God bless them abundantly in every way. D. W. GARVIN Our Special Correspondents Chagris Chagris, I. T., May 16, 1905-- Our vicinity was visited by a light rain last week. The literary society of Chagris was well attended Saturday night, there being a large crowd our to see and hear the boys perform their pieces. MISSES GRACIE and GILLA ORME, GRACIE CULBERSON and MAUD RICKETS were visitors here Saturday night from Healdton, PROF. OXFORD of Healdton was also here Saturday night. W. J. MOORE spent Sunday in Cornish. Mr. and Mrs. GROVE CHASE visited friends at Red Oak Monday. Mr. and Mrs. A. M. GREENWOOD are visiting at Red Oak. J. W. ORME of Healdton was visiting friends here. DR. E. M. SNODGRASS, who has been attending school at Kansas City the past winter and spring, is visiting friends here. He is looking for a location. What's the matter with Red Oak and Eolian? Come again. Signed Blue Eyes. Died--Tuesday evening of this week our town was saddened by a visit of the Death Angel, who called for the spirit of MR. JOSHUA MOORE, who was a resident of our town. A large concourse of sympathizing and sorrowing friends followed his remains to the cemetery Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Moore leaves four children, all of whom are now grown men and women. Mr. Moore was a good man and a friend to right, always ready and willing to do a kindness for a neighbor. He became submissive to the will of God before he died and consented to be baptized. The last few weeks of his life were very painful to him. ELDER F. M. TAYLOR conducted the burial service at the grave. May God bless the lives of his children. Strayed--from the undersigned, one small roan, white faced, stocken-legged mare, branded on left shoulder and left hip with an O and a bar through it. Will pay $2.50 for information leading to her recovery. J. F. COPELAND at Greenville, I. T. DR. HARPER and wife moved back to Loco today. We are sorry to see Brother and Sister Harper leaving our town. We have, however, a dentist, whose complexion we have not yet learned, but we are inclined to believe he is a white man, as …. E. B. PUGH of Ardmore has purchased six business lots and a residence in Cornish and is going to build a large business house at once. Mr. Pugh will be welcomed in Cornish. DR. S. O. TAYLOR DR. S. O. TAYLOR returned last week from the Medical College at Dallas, Texas where he finished as a student in the graduating course. Dr. Taylor is a young gentleman of the highest birth of nobility and is now equipped with the highest medical knowledge, and with his several years experience as a practitioner, he is able to do well and hold for himself a prominent place among the leading physicians of our country. He is high-toned, moral Christian gentleman, a true type of American manliness. DR. TAYLOR is the son of DR. F. M. TAYLOR of our town, where both he and his father have many warm friends. Everybody in and around Cornish welcomes Dr. Taylor home again and are justly proud to own him as a citizen and as a physician.
