Terry Mott officiating. Burial was held at the Antioch Cemetery under the direction of Wooster Funeral Home. Couch was born on March 17, 1902, on the Blue River between Tishomingo and Wapanucka to Samuel and Mattie Johnson Couch. Couch came to Pauls Valley at the age of eight and except for short spans, he had made Pauls Valley his home. He worked in ship yards during World War II, farmed, built bridges around Garvin County, did carpentry work, was a truck driver and worked for the City of Pauls Valley in the Water Department for 39 years, retiring in 1974. Couch had a full life and was a hard worker. At any task he undertook, he gave 110 percent. He was a faithful, steady employee and a good Christian. He never had a disparing thought or word to say against his fellowman. He was a good neighbor and was always willing to help. Clarence's motto was to help make the world a better place and leave it better when he left it. He touched may lives and he will be missed by all. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, two brothers; his first wife, Ruby Nichols Couch in 1967 and his second wife, Phebe Wickware Couch, in 1993; and two step-sons, Rev. James Wickware and Albert W. Nichols, Sr. Survivors include one brother Joe Couch and his wife, Babe of Plainview, Texas; one sister-in-law Bernice Couch of Plainview; one neice and one nephew, Betty Slawson, and Dewayne White, both of Elmore City; step-son Jerry Wickware of Springfield, Mo.; one step daughter, Glenna Batterton of LaFayette, La.; one step daughter-in-law, Wilma Nichols of Pauls Valley; 12 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
