Burns J.B. December 22, 1934 May 12, 2003 Graveside services will be held for John Burns on Saturday, May 17, 2003, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be Friday, May 16, from 4-8 p.m., with Pastor Jim Williams to officiate. John was born December 22, 1934, in Maysville, Oklahoma, and quietly passed from this life at home with his loved ones by his side after a long battle with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. John relocated to California in 1951 and settled in the Lamont area where he met his future wife, Edith Williams. He was employed by Joe Eyraud and Frick Farms, Collins Furniture, Si Winters Used Cars and then settled at Quality Used Cars (currently Discount Motors in Lamont). He was a dedicated employee for 15 years and then became a partner in the business for 10 years. Upon retiring he started John Burns Used Cars Wholesale. He was a member of the Lamont Jacees, former President and Tale Twister of the Lamont Lions Club and past President of the Kern County Used Car Dealers Association. His hobbies included golfing, playing cards with his friends, telling jokes, and teasing his grandchildren. John is survived by his wife of 50 years, Edith; son, Roger and wife, Cindy; daughter, Debra Pounds and husband Jeff, and daughter, Judy Sparks and husband, Curtis. He leaves behind 7 grandchildren, Jeffrey and Nicole Pounds, Tara Riess and husband, Joel, Traci Burns and Katie, Jenny and Cameron Sparks. He is also survived by 3 brothers, Frank, Delvin and Ray Burns and sister, Darlene Goldston. Honorary pallbearers will be Walter Clapp, Peanut Renfrow, Don Boyer, Jack Klassan, Carl Williams, Leroy Moore and Roy Ross. In his final days John accepted Christ as his Savior. The family wishes to thank Hoffmann Hospice for their kindness and support.
