BLAKLEY WOODWARD ­ The funeral for Wanda Lou Blakley, 71, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in First United Methodist Church. The Revs. Ray Blakley, Gary Holdeman, Marvin Nelson and Mary Davis will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie View Cemetery. Arrangements are by Billings Funeral Home. She was born Jan. 18, 1931, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to W.H. “Ted” and Emma Lee Thompson Wooldridge and died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at her home in Woodward. She graduated from Highland Park High School at Dallas in 1948 and from Texas Women’s University in 1952. She earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a minor in history. On Aug. 1, 1953, she married Jerold T. Robertson. He preceded her in death. She moved to Woodward in 1961 and worked for Dr. Dewey Collins at Collins Clinic and later attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva. She earned her Oklahoma teacher’s certification. She also took courses from Oklahoma State University and the University of Oklahoma. On June 26, 1964, she married Ray O. Blakley in Woodward. She taught 8th and 9th grade social studies in Woodward Junior High School from 1976 until her retirement in 1992. She took courses from the University of South School of Theology and on Dec. 30, 1984, completed the program of theological education. She was a certified lay reader in the Episcopal Church, and was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and the First United Methodist Church. She was a member of Woodward County Cancer Society and held the office of treasurer, the Reach to Recovery Volunteer, Prison Fellowship Ministry, Woodward Arts and Theater Council, Plains Indian and Pioneer Museum (lifetime), FOLOW, Delta Kappa Gamma, Woodward and Harper County Retired Educators Association with more than 1,200 hours of service, Northwest Oklahoma Emmaus Community, U.S. Capitol Historical Society, Foundation for the National Cathedral, Foundation for Historic Preservation, Texas Women’s University Alumni Association, (lifetime), World War II Memorial Society, White House Historical Society, Great Plains Preservation and Development Foundation, Oklahoma Retired Education Association (lifetime) and Woodward Hospital Auxiliary volunteer with 3, 157 hours of service, Woodward honored her by choosing her Citizen of the Year for 2000. Surviving are her husband, Ray of the home; three daughters, Elise Solloway of Woodward, Catherine Blakley of Bartlesville and June Black of Normal, Ill.; three sons, Ray of Carroliton, Texas, Ralph of Plano, Texas, and J. Ted of Pasedena, Calif.; two brothers, W.H. “Ted” Wooldridge Jr. of Austin, Texas, and James T. Wooldridge of Farmers Branch, Texas; and four grandchildren.
