Betty was born March 25, 1929 at Topeka, Kansas to Jacob Higgs and Velma (Kisky) Higgs. She moved to Kansas City, Kansas as a child and graduated from Kansas City Central High School. Betty married Alvin L. "Al" Ballentine at Kansas City, Kansas in 1988. She was an insurance underwriter and worked for Alexander & Alexander Insurance Agency for many years. Betty was an active member of the Business Women’s Association, Kansas City Chapter, and had been voted Woman of the Year by the professional group. Upon her retirement in 1993, the Ballentines moved to Grove, Oklahoma. Al preceded her in death on September 15, 1995. Betty was of the Catholic faith. Survivors include two sisters, Helen Richman & her husband, Ray of Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri and Vivian Pound of Platt City, Missouri and many nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and by a brother, Robert Higgs. Graveside services for Betty are planned for 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 5, 2005 at Diamond Cemetery, Diamond, Missouri with Chaplain Sam Carper officiating.
