Adair WEATHERFORD -- Funeral for Cletus L. Adair, 67, Weatherford, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Weatherford, with Bruce Lewis officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery under direction of Lockstone Funeral Home. He was born Sept. 12, 1937, in Lawton to Newton Calvin and Etta Mae Kitchens Adair. He grew up in Lawton and graduated from Lawton High School in 1955. He attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated in 1960 with a bachelor's degree in business administration. While in college, he was a member of ROTC and after graduation he joined the U.S. Army. He was a second lieutenant artillery, and served as a training and troop officer in Fort Bliss, Texas. He planned to make the Army his career, and was accepted into flight school. The day he was to leave for flight school he was diagnosed with diabetes, and was honorably discharged in 1962. He worked in civil service at Fort Sill before he opened his first Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant in 1967. He later owned and operated KFC restaurants in Weatherford, Clinton, Elk City, Duncan and Woodward. He married Glenda Pennington on June 18, 1973. In 1974, they combined families and moved to Weatherford, where they made their home. He began raising Texas Longhorns in 1983. Survivors include his wife, Glenda Adair, Weatherford; a son, Calvin and his wife, Cathy Adair, Weatherford; four daughters and sons-in-law: Keitha and Jerry Legg, Kevyn and Eddie Steffensen, all of Yukon; Michelle and Jim DeBona, Bradenton, Fla.; and Kelly and Robert Agee, Hinton; a sister, Pat Vowell, Broken Arrow; 11 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and three nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Calvin William and Andrew Louis.
