Survivors omitted. Durant Daily Democrat Wednesday, February 18, 2004 Howard Slaten, 69 Services for Howard Lee Slaten are 11 a.m. Thursday at Silo Baptist Church with Rev. Darrell Edwards, Rev. Joe Don Smith and Rev. Dale Ballard officiating. Harold Lee Slaten was called home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, at the Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, Texas. He was born Sept. 3, 1934, in Silo to James M. and Laura Ila (Croley) Slaten. Howard married Ruth S. Lewis July 16, 1960 in Durant at the Fairview Baptist Church. They were married 43 years. Howard graduated from SOSU with an Advanced Mathematics Degree. He taught eighth-grade science in Caddo two years. He taught science, biology, chemistry and physics 35 years in Durant High School and chemistry at Southeastern Oklahoma State University four years. He taught Sunday School and was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church. He also enjoyed ranching. He lost the battle of life but won the war of Eternal Life. He was preceded in death by his parents. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery, Silo, with Jimmy Dale Ballard, Corey Thomas, Joey DaVault, Tim Smith, Wendell Peoples, Gary Young and Donny Lewis serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are the Fairview Baptist Church Adult 3 Mens Sunday School class. Family hour is 6-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
