AND MRS. J. T. BRECKENRIDGE. Plunging over a three hundred (sic) precipice while motoring in the Sequah (sic) National Park in California, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Breckenridge, formerly Beckham county residents, Saturday met their death instantly. Mr. and Mrs. Breckenridge passed through Sayre last August on their way to tour western states and were planning to return immediately to their home in Corpus Christi, Texas, when the tradegy (sic) occured. For a period of over fifteen years they lived at their farm near Doxey, the place which is occupied by J. M. Anderson and which is one of the best farms and the most modern farm home in the section. They were well known in this county and Sayre residents will recall knowing them. They moved here in 1905 from Weatherford, at which place, Mr. Breckenridge was engaged in the hardware business. They moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, some time in 1920 on account of their health, however, they visited here many times since then, having relatives here. Mr. Breckenridge was sixty years of age and Mrs. Breckenridge a few years younger. Mrs. Breckenridge's mother, Mrs. Blackwood, lived with them at Corpus Christi. Jesse Blackwood, brother of Mrs. Breckenridge, lives one and a half miles east of Sayre. She has one sister in California and one in New Mexico. Mr. Brickenridge (sic) leaves one brother, Henry Breckenridge, in Sayre and four sisters, one residing in Alva, one in Oklahoma City and two living in Sayre; Mrs. S. C. Owen and Mrs. W. E. Shields. Relatives and close friends of the family expect the bodies to arrive here Friday, however it is not definite. Interment will be made in the Sayre-Doxey Cemetery. (30 Sep 1926, The Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): At an early hour Friday morning S. C. Owen, of this city, received a telegram announcing that both Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Breckenridge, former residents of this section, had been killed in an automobile accident in Chiquoa (sic) National Park, near Fresno, California, last Thursday afternoon, September 23rd. Relatives from Oklahoma City at once left for California to bring the remains to this city; funeral services will be held from the Methodist church in this city tomorrow afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Breckenridge were for many years residents of the Doxey section, owning the farm now the property of A. W. Anderson, and leaving here some six or seven years ago, since which time, they have resided at Corpus Christi, Texas. Mr. and Mrs. Breckenridge were Sayre visitors either in the last days of July, or early in August, leaving here for an auto trip through California. They were accompanied by their niece Miss Velma Owen, of this city, who went with them as far as Los Angeles. Mr. Breckenridge leaves four sisters, Mrs. S. C. Owen and Mrs. W. E. Shields; the others are Mrs. W. W. Foster of Alva, Oklahoma, and Mrs. W. R. Blackwood, of Oklahoma City. Mrs. Breckenridge leaves a mother and two sisters, the former being Mrs. Mollie Blackwood, who has made her home with the Breckenridge family at Corpus Christi. The sisters are Mrs. Myrtle Mounts of Yokomoia (sic), California, and Mrs. Rose Dunlap, of Fort Sumner, New Mexico. (7 Oct 1926, The Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): The bodies of Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Breckenridge, killed in an auto accident at Visalia, California, arrived in this city Saturday morning on the California train. However, the storm of Saturday night made it impossible to get to the cemetery with the hearses, while the continued rains and impassable roads made it impossible for many friends to get to this city, and the services were postponed until Monday afternoon.
