HARRIS DIED AT AMITY SATURDAY. John W. Harris died Saturday afternoon about two o'clock at the home of his son, James Harris, at Amity, Mo., after a lingering illness. He was one of the old time residents of this part of Missouri having spent the bulk of his life in Clinton and DeKalb counties. He was born in Clay county 83 years ago. He reared a large family. He was 2 times married. The first time he married Miss Susan Burnam and to this union nine children were born. Those living are: Virgil Harris of Moorewood, Okla., H. T. Harris of Lathrop, Missouri; O. M. Harris of Amity; George Harris of Erick, Oklahoma; John Harris of Moorewood, Okla., James Harris of Amity; and Charles Harris of Leedy, Oklahoma. Two daughters also were born to the union and they died a number of years ago. Miss Anna passed away in 1895 at the age of 20 years. The other daughter, Mary, married Ed Faul of Union Star and died some years ago at that place. Besides the children Mr. Harris leaves 15 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was united in marriage with Susan Roper in 1919. She survives him. Funeral services were held at Amity, Monday at 11 o'clock, conducted by H. B. Massie, Minister of the Amity Methodist Church. Burial was in the Amity cemetery.
