D. MADDOX DIES SUDDENLY Last Monday, W. D. Maddox was enjoying dinner, having as guests, George Gordon and Will Kincaid. After all were through with the meal it was seen there was something wrong with Mr. Maddox, as he was unable to move, and it was soon discovered that he had had a stroke of paralysis. He was carried to the bed and doctors summoned, but there seemed to be nothing that could be done, and he passed away that night at eleven o'clock. The sudden taking of Mr. Maddox was a severe shock to all. He was an excellent citizen and neighbor, honest and upright among his fellowmen, always ready to lend a helping hand, and was very hospitable, his friends, always receiving a hearty welcome at his home. William Davis Maddox was born in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, February 8th, 1857, and died near Elk City, October 28th, 1918. He moved to Arkansas in 1871, and to Oklahoma in 1910. He was a member of the Church of Christ congregation and was an earnest christian man, devoted to church, home and family. A wife and six children are left to mourn his departure, four children having preceeded him in death. The children remaining are, Mrs. Otis Munn and Lewis J. Maddox of Dilworth, Okla., Mrs. Willie Hall, of Guyman, Okla., Miss Sillah and Wardie Maddox, at home, and a son, Harley, who is in the service, Camp 5, C. C. L. & T. Co., Montesane, Wash. His mother, who is up in the 80's lives at Magazine, Ark., with his brother, T. J. Maddox. A sister, Mrs. Riner, lives at Anadarko, Okla., while a brother, L. J. Maddox, familiarly called "Bob" Maddox, lives southeast of Elk City. At the time of writing this, funeral arrangements have not been made, as they were trying to get into communication with the son in Washington. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.org/ok/beckham/beckham.html
