She was born April 18, 1913 in Alfalfa County, Oklahoma, the daughter of Fred and Katie (Zehr) Schurter. She was a graduate of Driftwood High School. On Nov. 1, 1933 she married Walter W. Armbruster at Alva. Together they farmed in the Burlington area for more than 60 years. Walter died July 18, 1996. Survivors include three daughters: Charlene R. Ackerman and her husband, Danny, of Meade, Kan., Carolee A. Whitacre and husband, Bob of LaHabra, Calif., Cecelia I. Castle and husband, Richard, of Jet; a daughter-in-law, Patricia A. Armbruster of Cherokee; a sister, Wilma Frohock and husband, Ben, of Blackwell; three sisters-in-law: Martha Schurter of Katy, Texas, Doris Armbruster of Burlington, and Lucille Schurter of Fort Scott, Kan.; 11 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; a son, Charles Armbruster in 2004; her parents; three brothers; and two grandsons. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 26, 2004, at the Driftwood Christian Church, Driftwood, Okla., with Rev. Rodney Rieger presiding. Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Fidler-Orme Mortuary, Meade, Kan., and from 9:30 until service time at the church. Burial will be in the Apostolic Christian Cemetery, Burlington.
