E. SHELLHOUSE Passes Away Saturday Morning At Home In Tiffin Mrs. Elizabeth (DeVene) Shellhouse passed away Saturday morning, July 20, at 7 o'clock at her home in Tiffin, after a lingering illness. Mrs. Shellhouse was born March 18, 1861, at Carey. She was married to Charles Shellhouse, now deceased, June 3, 1880, at Wharton. She is survived by five children, Anna, at home; Mrs. Frank Whelan, of Adrien; Mrs. Harry Havner, of Sycamore; and Harvey Shellhouse and Ray Shellhouse of Tiffin. Eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning, July 23, at 10 o'clock in the Hoffman funeral home at Tiffin. Burial will be made in the Wharton Cemetery. Wyandot Daily Chief, Upper Sandusky, Ohio Friday, February 4, 1916 DEATH AT SYCAMORE Charles A. Shellhouse died Monday noon at his home, in Sycamore, after a long illness with kidney trouble. He was aged 68 years, 10 months and 15 days. The funeral was held from the home Wednesday afternoon, at 12:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. B.E. Reemsnyder. Burial in Sycamore cemetery. The pallbearers were Floyd and Klahr Shellhouse, Harvey and Ray Shellhouse and Ross Prince. Wyandot Daily Chief-Union, Upper Sandusky, Ohio Monday, January 11, 1971 PITT TOWNSHIP NATIVE EXPIRES Mrs. Grover Hotelling's Rites to Be On Wednesday Mrs. Bessie Z. Hotelling, 76, route one, (Pitt Township) passed away at 10:10 a.m. Sunday in Wyandot Memorial Hospital. Death was unexpected. Born in Pitt Township, Wyandot County, on March 31, 1894, she was a daughter of John and Mary (Barth) Lawrence. She married Grover Hotelling on Nov. 27, 1913 and he died on Dec. 2, 1946. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Howard (Dorothy) Leightey, Upper Sandusky; sons, Darrell, route one, Upper Sandusky; Roger, Tacoma Washington; Paul, Fontana, Calif.; Glenn, route four, Bucyrus; Charles, Pitt Township; Wayne, Upper Sandusky; Dwight, Fostoria; 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; brothers Harvey Lawrence and Alvin Lawrence, both of Florida; Wesley Lawrence, route one, Upper Sandusky; Martin J. Lawrence, Nevada; and a sister, Mrs. Susan Swihart, Upper Sandusky. Two brothers and two sisters are deceased. Mrs. Hotelling was a member of the First Church of God at Wharton. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Bringman & Company Funeral Home. The Rev. Fred Landolt will officiate. Burial is to be made in Old Mission Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday. Wyandot Daily Chief, Upper Sandusky, Ohio Tuesday, May 23, 1911 MRS. MARY LONG After intense suffering with bloodpoisoning, Mrs. Mary Long died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ella Mohn, in Tiffin. Tuesday morning, at 6 o'clock. Mrs. Long was about fifty years old. She came to Carey when fourteen years of age and was reared in the home of Captain Kimmel in that city. Her maiden name was Mary Brenard. She was married February 27, 1871 to William Long, who departed this life March 9, 1910. They were parents of twelve children, two of whom are deceased. Those who survive the mother are: Mrs. Charles Bakies, Mrs. Frank Jones, and Mrs. William Burr, of Carey; Mrs. George W. Walter, in Tymochtee township; Charles Long, of Camden, Ind.; Clyde Long, now on his way to Florida, and Mrs. Mohn and Misses Hazel, Bessie and Clarence Long, of Tiffin. Mrs. Long lived in Carey and vicinity nearly all her life, only going to Tiffin last March. She was a kind christian wife and mother and was a member of the United Evangelical church at Carey for over twenty-five years. The remains will be brought to Carey Wednesday noon, when arrangements for burial will be made. Wyandot Daily Chief, Upper Sandusky, Ohio Saturday, February 16, 1929 MRS. MAHALA LONG Aged Resident of Carey Dies at Her Home Friday Afternoon Mrs. Mahala Long, aged and respected resident of Carey, passes into the sleep of death Friday afternoon at 5 o'clock at her home on Frederick street. Deceased had been ill since last June with a complication of diseases and the last several weeks had the grip, which resulted in her death. Mrs. Long, whose maiden name was Mahala Hotelling, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Hotelling, both long deceased, and was born in Pennsylvania, October 26, 1840, having reached the advanced age of 88 years, 3 months and 19 days. Many years ago she was united in marriage to Thomas Long, who preceded her in death. One daughter and one son were born to this union, both of whom died in infancy. She leaves one sister and two brothers, namely, Mrs. Phoebe Sherman, Charles Hotelling, and Abe Hotelling, all of Carey. Mrs. Long had been a resident of Carey for mote than thirty years. Mrs. Long was a member of Memorial Evangelical church in Carey and was a woman highly esteemed. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Memorial Evangelical church conducted by the pastor, Rev. O. D. Myers. Interment will be made in Spring Grove cemetery. The body, which was prepared for burial by Undertaker C. F. Sutter was taken to the home Saturday afternoon. Wyandot Daily Chief, Upper Sandusky, Ohio Saturday, February 16, 1929 WAS BORN HERE Mrs. Philip Herbold, sixtyfour, died at Galion Friday morning. Her maiden name was Mabel M. Wineland. She was the daughter of John A. and Susan Zimmerman Wineland and was born November 11, 1865, in Upper Sandusky. Her husband, one daughter, two sisters and a brother survive. JOSHUA REYNOLDS Passes Away at Home of Daughter In This City Saturday Morning Death claimed Mrs. Joshua Reynolds, and esteemed resident of this city, Saturday morning at 11 o'clock, at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Richardson, on North Fifth street. She had been ill for several years from heart trouble, but complications resulting from an injury received several weeks ago caused her death. A few weeks ago she received treatment at Mt. Carmel hospital in Columbus. Mrs. Reynolds, whose maiden name was Leefe Jane Gibson, was the daughter of David and Harriet White Gibson, both now deceased, and was born in Crane township July 18, 1857, being aged 71 years, 6 months and 18 days at the time of her demise. On January 22, 1873, she was united in marriage to Joshua Reynolds, who preceded her in death three years ago in January. Two sons and two daughters, namely, Asa, Trinton, Bessie and Sarah, are deceased. A stepson, Daniel R. Reynolds, deputy in the probate division, common pleas court of this city, also survives. She leaves one sister, Mrs. Hester Willoughby, at Owosso, Mich. Mrs. Reynolds was a member of Trinity Evangelical church in this city and was a fine Christian lady. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Richardson home conducted by Rev. L. C. Hoover. Interment will be made in Old Mission cemetery. Wyandot Daily Chief, Upper Sandusky, Ohio Tuesday, February 26, 1929 ZEIGLER-LIMBRECHT Young Couple United in Marriage in This City Monday Evening Miss Beatrix Garnet Limbrecht, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Limbrecht, of this city, became the bride of F. Earl Zeigler of Nevada, Monday evening at 7 o'clock at the English Lutheran parsonage in this city. Rev. W. H. Kibler read the single ring service, and they were unattended. The bride wore a dress of shell pink satin and a corsage of sweet peas. Mr. Zeigler is employed at mechanic at the Steinbaugh garage in this city, and the happy young couple will reside with the bride's parents on North Hazel street. Morris has received an announcement of the approaching marriage of Miss Charlotte Root, of Toledo, who will be married May 18 at Presbyterian church, in Toledo to Louis Spencer Daniel. Miss Root is one of the most popular bride-elects in Toledo and has just returned with her mother from an extended stay in New York. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Root. Her mother was formerly Miss Lottie Ward, of this city. Wyandot Daily Chief, Upper Sandusky, Ohio Tuesday, February 26, 1929 JOSEPH M. KOONTZ Esteemed Resident of Near Wharton Dies Monday Afternoon Joseph M. Koontz, esteemed resident of near Wharton, passed away Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Koontz, northwest of Wharton. Mr. Koontz had been ill for the past year with infirmities of age, but only seriously ill for the past three weeks. Joseph Koontz was the son of the late Michael and Margaret Koontz and was born in Maryland October 2, 1845, being aged 83 years, 4 months and 23 days at the time of passing away. On December 1, 1878, he was united in marriage to Miss Laura DeVene, who preceded him in death three years ago last October. To this union one son was born, Ernest Koontz, at whose home the father died. He is survived by three grandchildren. Mr. Koontz was the last of his family. When Mr. Koontz was three years of age he with his parents moved near Lovell. Upon his marriage they moved to a farm near Wharton, where he had lived ever since. He had followed the occupation of farming and was a kind and devoted father, and admired by many friends. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Church of God in Wharton with Rev. A. L. Kriner officiating. Burial will be made in the Wharton cemetery. Shine, 79, of Route1, McClutchenville, died at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the home of her son, James, after an illness of two years. She was born May 25, 1876 in Carey to Charles and Elizabeth (Long) Hotelling. She was married to John D. Shine June 12, 1896 and he died in January, 1940. Surviving are a son, James, at whose home she passed away; daughters, Mrs Nellie Beidelschies and Mrs. Mack Miller, both of Carey; Mrs. George Ritter, of Upper Sandusky; brothers, Andy and George Hotelling, both of Carey; Elza Hotelling, of Upper Sandusky; sisters Mrs. Simon Wohlgamuth, of Carey; Mrs. Anna Snyder, Fairborn; Mrs. Myrtle Inman, Columbus; and Mrs. Charles Yentzer, Kenton; 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. Four brothers are deceased. Mrs. Shine was a member of the Carey Methodist Church. Services are at 2 p.m. Monday in the Bristol Funeral Home, the Rev. Richard Hughes officiating. Wyandot Daily Chief-Union, Upper Sandusky, Ohio Saturday, January 28, 1956 LASZLO FALABU IS CLAIMED TODAY Native of Hungary Dies At Hospital, Rites Set For Wednesday Laszlo Falabu, 90, of 448 South Sandusky avenue, passed away at Wyandot Memorial hospital Friday evening at 6:45 from complications and infirmities of age. Mr. Falabu has been in failing health one year and had been a patient at the hospital twelve days. Born November 8, 1865, in Hungary, he was the son of Stephen and Veronica (Kanizsai Nagy) Falabu. November 20, 1898, in his native Hungary, he was married to Rose Radi, who survives with a daughter, Mrs. Theresa Ciprus, who resides with the mother here; a grandson, Dr. Edward S. Ciprus, of Avon Lake, Ohio, and two great-grandchildren. Seven brothers and a sister are deceased. A retired harness maker, he had in more recent years operated a grocery and meat market in Cleveland. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and the parish Holy Name Society, here, and the Old Hungarian-American Society, in Cleveland. Mr. Falabu had resided 52 years on Cleveland before coming here five years ago. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday morning at 9:30 o'clock from St. Peter's Catholic Church with the pastor, Rev. William B. Sossong, officiating. Interment will be made in St. Peter's cemetery. Friends may call at the Bringman & Co. funeral home Tuesday from 1 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 10 p.m. Members of the Holy Name Society will gather at the funeral home Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock to pray the rosary. Hotelling, 83, of 416 Grove St., Carey, died at 6:30 a.m. Monday in Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay, after an extended illness. He was born Feb. 14, 1883 in Wyandot County, the son of Charles and Elizabeth (Long) Hotelling. He married Grace Biggs, March 16, 1923 and she survives. Other survivors include two sons, Donald and Richard, both of Carey; daughters, Mrs. Lola Mae Caudill, New Port Richey, Fla., and Mrs. Margaret Cole, Carey; brothers, Andy, Carey, and Joe, Upper Sandusky, and a sister, Mrs. Anna Snyder, Fairborn, Ohio; fifteen grandchildren and five step-grandchildren, Mr. Hotelling was an employee of the village of Carey for the past 30 years. Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Carey Evangelical United Brethren Church. The Rev. Robert Klingel will officiate with burial in Spring Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the Goff Funeral Home, Carey after 2 p.m. Tuesday. The body will be taken to the church one hour before services. Wyandot Daily Chief-Union, Upper Sandusky, Ohio Friday, March 2, 1973 Mrs. Donald Reid Funeral services were held this afternoon in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home, Tiffin, for Mrs. Martha Reid, 48, of Rt. 1, New Reigel. Mrs. Reid died Wednesday at 4:55 a.m. in the S. Washington Nursing Home, Tiffin, where she had been a patient for two weeks. Mrs. Reid was a member of McClutchenville United Methodist Church and was to be buried in Bethel Cemetery, McClutchenville. A native of Seneca County, Mrs. Reid was born Feb. 22, 1925, to Andrew and Anna (Rupp) Stock. She married Donald Reid in McClutchenville Feb. 19, 1950, and he survives. Other survivors include her father, Rt. 1, New Reigel; children, Mrs. Joseph Gorse of Kent, Ruth and Arlen, both at home; and a brother, Clarence Stock, Rt 1, New Riegel. Wyandot Daily Chief-Union, Upper Sandusky, Ohio Friday, March 2, 1973 Charles Yentzer Charles D. Yentzer, 83, of Kenton, died at 2:55 p.m. Wednesday in the Hardin County Home where he had resided the past three years. Born Sept. 24, 1889, in Wyandot County, he was a son of George and Flora (Wood) Yentzer. In 1907 he married Nellie Hotelling who died in 1959. He was a retired farmer. Surviving are a daughter Mrs. Harvey Mrs. Harvey (Zella) Burkey, Rt. 5, Kenton; a brother, Clyde of Upper Sandusky; and a half-sister, Mrs. Ella Needles, Largo, Fla. Four sisters and one brother are deceased. Funeral services Saturday at the Hull-Leis Funeral Home, Kenton, will be conducted by Rev. Carver Williams at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are from 7-9 p.m. today. Wyandot Daily Chief-Union, Upper Sandusky, Ohio Friday, March 2, 1973 Mrs. Ulrich Reile Mrs. Cartha Ellen Reile, 55, of Rt 4, Upper Sandusky, died in Houston, Tex., at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, just one week after her husband's death. Both died as a result of injuries incurred in an automobile accident. Born Aug. 30, 1917, in Findlay, she was a daughter of R. C. and Fern (Brown) Fetters who live on Rt. 1, Findlay. She was married to Dale C. Critchet who died in November 1953. On Nov. 21, 1956, she married Ulrich C. Reile who died Feb. 21, 1973. She is survived by four children, Mrs. Chris (Barbara) Theleritis, Pekin, Ill.; Dallas Critchet, Green Springs; Dennis Critchet, Upper Sandusky; and Miss Sandy Reile, at home; two step-children, James Reile, Rt. 4, Upper Sandusky; and Mrs. Noland (Kathleen) Green, Houston, Tex.; four grandchildren; a brother, Clair, near Findlay; and a sister, Mrs. Timothy (Ruth) Cole, Findlay. A former school teacher in Arcadia, Mrs. Reile was a member of Salem Grange and of the North Salem Lutheran Church where last rites will be conducted by the Rev. James Graeser at 1:30 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the Bringman & Company Funeral Home from2-5 p.m. Sunday. Smith, Rt. 5, Upper Sandusky, are the parents of a son born Thursday in Wyandot Memorial Hospital and weighing 8 pounds, 1 ounce. Weekly Union-Republican, Upper Sandusky, Ohio Friday, November 5, 1909 DAUGHTER OF COLONEL BACKUS Mrs. Addie Price of Forest, wife of the late Russell Price, and a lady well known in the western part of the county, died Saturday morning at 8 o'clock, after six months' illness with Bright's disease. Her late husband was postmaster at Forest from 1885-1889. Deceased was the daughter if Col. W. H. Backus, colonel of the famous Backus cavalry during the civil war. She was born at Burlington, Ia, and was fifty-six years old. Three sons, Harry, in Central America, W. B. at Forest and C. R. Rolley of Toledo. Burial was made in Huston (sic) cemetery. Weekly Union-Republican, Upper Sandusky, Ohio Friday, June 10, 1910 The funeral of Miss Mary Follie, who died at her home at Oceola Saturday evening at 4:30 o'clock, was held from the United Brethren church at Oceola, of which she was a member, Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. J. H. Kunert had charge of the sevice and burial was made in the Oakwood cemetery at Bucyrus. Mary Follie was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Follie and was born in Holmes township, Crawford county, Dec. 1, 1891. Death was caused by peritonitis, from which she had been suffering over a week. Besides her grief stricken parents and friends, she is survived by one sister, Mrs. Inez Poister of near Bucyrus, and two brothers, Earl A. of Bucyrus and Leslie O. of New Winchester. Weekly Union-Republican, Upper Sandusky, Ohio Friday, June 10, 1910 The funeral of Alfred Gideon, the four months old son of Mr. and Mrs. Pliny Bowen, of northwest of town, who died Monday afternoon, was held at the home of his grandfather, Gideon Bowen, on North Seventh street Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock. The services were conducted by Rev. J. W. Holland and sweet music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. George Hale and Mrs. George Pierman, with instrumental accompaniment by Miss Louise Newell. The floral offerings were very beautiful. Four little girls, members of the S. N. club, acted as pallbearers. They were Misses Zilpah Smith, Dorothy Seebach, Florence Carter and Miriam Messner.
