Frank Leslie BEGGS, Newark, Ohio; born April 28, 1866, in Gallia county, Ohio. II. George W. BEGGS, born at Columbus, Ohio on Sept.11, 1843, lived in Gallia county, Ohio, died in Gallia county, Ohio, on Nov. 7, 1877; married at Centreville, Ohio, on Aug. 13, 1865 to Taphena MCMILLIN, born in Gallia county, Ohio, on March 8, 1843, died on Nov. 13, 1875. III. Laura HOLCOMB, born in Gallia county, Ohio, in 1811, lived in Gallia county, Ohio, died in Gallia county, Ohio, in 1883; married in Gallia county, Ohio, to Edward Tiffin MCMILLIN, born in Gallia county, Ohio, on Dec. 7, 1808. IV. Samuel Robert HOLCOMB, born at Spencertown, N.Y., on Feb. 28, 1777, lived in Gallia county, Ohio, died in Gallia county, Ohio, on Jan. 24, 1867; married in Gallia county, Ohio, on Jan. 16, 1802, to Sarah EWING, born in Greenbrier county, Va., on April 21, 1783, died in Gallia county, Ohio, on Sept. 26, 1850. V. Zephaniah HOLCOMB, born at Simmsbury, Conn. On Aug. 19, 1750, lived in Columbia county, N.Y., died in Otsego county, N.Y., on March 16, 1822; married in Columbia county, N.Y., in 1772, to Taphena NILES, died in Columbia county, N.Y., in April 1777. *** NOTES: George W. BEGGS served his country as a soldier during the entire Civil war. He was mustered in at Marietta, Ohio, Co. B, 36th regiment, Capt. W. G. ADNEY, Col. George CROOK; wounded at Cedar Creek in 1864: discharged June 27, 1865. His children, all born in Gallia county, Ohio, are as follows: (1) Frank Leslie (twin), born April 28, 1866, mentioned above. (2) Sophia Maria (twin), born April 28, 1866. (3) Edward Tiffin, born Nov. 22, 1868. (4) Charles Thompson, born Feb. 5, 1871. (5) William James, born June 1, 1873. Edward Tiffin MCMILLIN: The MCMILLIN family record is given below: *** Samuel Robert HOLCOMB was reared in Columbia county, N.Y., and at the age of 21 moved to Greenbrier county, Va., with his uncle, Timothy HOLCOMB. Here he met his future wife, Sarah EWING. He became a prominent pioneer citizen of Huntington township, Gallia county, Ohio, where he spent his long, useful life, and where he raised his 10 children. His house was the second built there, Section 24, where the town of Vinton was laid out. With his wife and two children he moved into his new house April 9, 1806. His tombstone and that of his wife are well preserved in the cemetery at Vinton. He was a soldier in the War of 1812, having enlisted Aug.1, 1813, as a private in Capt. John ROADANNOUR'S Mounted company, Gallia county, Ohio (Ind. Soldiers' War 1812; page 153). His 10 children are: (1) Anselm T., 1803-1850. (2) Anna S., 1805-1888. (3) Janette, 1807. (4) Olive, 1809. (5) Laura, 1811-1883, mentioned above. (6) Taphena, 1813, married a MATTHEWS. (7) Sepen, 1815. (8) John E., 1817. (9) Calphurnia, 1819. Married a MCCUMBER. (10) Edward T. HOLCOMB, 1882. *** Zephaniah HOLCOMB served as a private in Capt. Abner HAWLEY'S company, 8th regiment, Albany county, M.Y. Militia, American Revolution. (Ref,: N.S.D.A.R., Nat. No. 72338). He was married three times, but we have not the name of his third wife. By his first wife he had three children. In 1779 he married his second wife, Mehitable WETMORE, by whom he had eight children. All of his children are: (1) Stephen, born March 6, 1773. (2) John, born Jan. 14, 1775 (3) Samuel Robert, born Feb. 18, 1777. (4) Enoch, born Feb. 20, 1780. (5) Elijah, born Oct. 16, 1781. (6) Mary, born April 21, 1786. (7) Reuben, born May 11, 1793. (8) Abner J., born May 21, 1795. (9) Alexander, born March 19, 1797. (10) Robert B., born Aug. 23, 1799. (11) Mehitable, born Feb. 23, 1802. The HOLCOMB family of Connecticut gave 49 of her sons as soldiers in the American Revolution. Most of them were from Hartford county, and all were related. *** The MCMILLIN Family Edward MCMILLIN of Gallia county, Ohio, last surviving son of Edward Tiffin MCMILLIN, left a record of his father's old family Bible, and among other data, mostly old newspaper clippings, a statement as follows: Edward MCMILLIN and his three brothers, Marion, William and John MCMILLIN, came from Scotland about 1776, and at first settled in Virginia, afterwards moving to Ohio: Edward in about 1794, to Gallia county, and the others to different parts of the state, in 1808. Edward was born Jan. 15, 1769, and his wife, Sarah REID, Sept. 27, 1763. Their children are as follows: (1) Jane, born Feb. 5, 1787, in Virginia. (2) Ruth, born March 31, 1791, in Virginia. (3) Joseph, born March 9, 1793, in Virginia. (4) Sarah, born Jan. 27, 1795, in Ohio. (5) Peffy, born Dec. 27, 1796, (6) Mary, born March 6, 1799. (7) Esther, born Aug. 15, 1801. (8) William, born June 27, 1803. (9) Elizabeth, born in Sept., 1805. (10) Edward Tiffin, born Dec. 7, 1808, mentioned above. (11) Minta, born June 4, 1809. (12) James, born June 10, 1712. Edward Tiffin MCMILLIN, named for Governor Tiffin of Ohio, had 10 children, as follows: Edward, Jane, Charley, Taphena, Hettie, Fremont and Stuart MCMILLIN. Emerson MCMILLIN, philanthropist, of New York, was a son of William, born 1803, son of Edward I.
