She was 86. The daughter of Frank Currie and Teresa DiOrio, she was born April 4, 1919 in Highland, N.Y. Rose attended Highland schools. A member of St. Augustine R.C. Church in Highland, she married Marty Abbate on June 28, 1942 in the church. He predeceased her on August 13, 2001. The daughter of the late Albert Clarke and Vera McLeon, she was born on December 13, 1939 in Wah Town St. Ann Bay, Jamaica, West Indies. She was a retired Environmental Service Aide for the Rockland Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg, N.Y.; a member of Christian Church of Rockland in Garnerville, N.Y.; and a part of their Usher Board, Church Choir and was a Church Mother. DeVolve, Ruth Catherine (Burger) Ruth Catherine (Burger) DeVolve, age 63, formerly of Middletown, N.Y., passed away peacefully on May 18, 2005 from a long illness at Banner Health Hospice Facility in Mesa, AZ. Born November 26, 1941 in Middletown, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Donald and Ada Catherine Burger. She was a lifelong resident of Connecticut before making permanent residency in Mesa, AZ in 1987. She retired from the Food Service Industry in 2000. She was the beloved wife of the late Henry DeVolve. Survivors include her three children, daughter Sandra Francis of Ormond Beach, Fla., son Richard Mailloux Jr. of Mesa AZ, son Brian P. Mailloux of Milford, CT; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers Donald Burger and John Burger both of Sussex, N.J., Thomas Burger of New Hampton, N.Y., Robert Burger of Grand Island, N.Y., Joseph Burger of Mims, Fla.; sisters, Joy Bird of Westtown, N.Y., Betty Herling of Middletown, N.Y.; especially devoted sister Alepha (Lee) Smith of Willsboro, N.Y.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was 71. Pat was the daughter of the late William and Marion Brush Meara and was born July 14, 1933 in Highland Falls, N.Y. Survivors include her husband, Norman G. Emery, Sr. of Livingston Manor, a retired equipment operator for Teamsters Local #445 and an area resident for over 55 years, died Friday May 20, 2005 at the Susquehanna Nursing Home, Johnson City, N.Y. He was 89. The son of the late George E. and Ethel Paul Emery, he was born March 13, 1916 in Evansville, Wis. Fred was a 53-year member of the Manor Hose Co. #1, where he was a past Captain of the Fire Police. In 2001 he was recognized by the NYS Fireman's Association as a dedicated fireman for over 50 years of service. He was a member for over 50 years of the Livingston Manor Presbyterian Church where he had served as a Deacon and a Trustee; he was a former supervisor for the Sullivan County CACHE Weatherization Program. He enjoyed carpentry, stain glass work and he was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer, and gardener. In a family statement, "He was a loving father and devoted husband." Lappin, John John Lappin (Brother Eugene) FSC, 69, of Christian Brothers Community in Narragansett, R.I., died Friday May 13, 2005 at Christian Brothers Center. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on September 27, 1935, the son of the late Patrick Lappin and Lena (Prior) Lappin, he was baptized John Peter Lappin. He was the brother of the late Brian Lappin. He leaves three brothers: James C. Lappin of New Milford, Conn., Patrick Lappin of East Northport, N.Y., and Eugene Lappin of New Paltz; and one sister, Mary P. Klein of Stattsburg, N.Y. He entered the Brothers of the Christian Schools in Barrytown, N.Y. in 1953 and received the habit in September of that year. He pronounced his final vows in 1960 in Barrytown, N.Y. and chose the name Adrian Eugene for his religious life. He was most commonly called Brother Eugene. Brother Eugene received a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and Spanish at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. in 1958; a Masters degree in French and Spanish also from the Catholic University in 1961; and a Doctoral in romance languages from Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass. in 1975. Brother Eugene began his teaching career at La Salle Academy in Providence, R.I. in 1958. In 1961, Brother was assigned to St. Joseph's High School, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and served in Ethiopia until 1970. Other assignments were at Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass., Pennsylvania State University, Scranton, Pa., and Lewis University, Romeoville, Ill., where he served as VP of Academic Affairs. Brother Eugene returned to Narragansett, R.I. in the spring of 1992 and was instructor/director of the Ph.D. program at Salve Regina University in Rhode Island, until his untimely death. In addition to his brother, Jim and wife, Dorothy, brother Pat (who's wife, Eleanor, entered into eternal rest in 1999), brother Gene and his wife, Annette, and sister Mary and her husband, Bill, Brother Eugene, who was known to all family members as "Shaun", leaves behind nine nieces and nephews along with 18 grandnieces and grandnephews; and a very large extended family in both the U.S. and Ireland. Daughter of the late James and Barbara Perrone Russo, she was born April 14, 1925 in Cornwall on Hudson. She married the late Americo Lodato on July 7, 1946 in St. Thomas Church, Cornwall. A family statement reads, "Mary will be lovingly remembered as a loving and devoted wife of 49 years, and a loving, dedicated mother and sister. Mary enjoyed spending time with, her family, bingo, crossword puzzles and politics." Thomas F. McCarthy, Jr., age 76, of Adrian, Mich., passed away suddenly May 19, 2005 at Bixby Hospital. He was born February 16, 1929 in Fall River, Mass., the son of Thomas F. and Mary (Barrett) McCarthy, Sr. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He married his first wife, Jean Hagy, and she preceded him in death in 1966. On July 8, 1967 he married his best friend, Pat Connelly, in Middletown. She survives and they celebrated a marriage of 37 years. Tom worked as an educational textbook salesman until his retirement. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Tom was a member of the VFW; the Moose in Adrian; belonged to McQuoids Fire Company in Middletown, N.Y.; and very proud to have been an honorary member of Sigma Phi Epsilon. He loved sports of all kinds, especially watching the Red Sox and Notre Dame. His most treasured time was with his family and his grandchildren. His second best friend was his pet "Maggie". He was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather. He will dearly be missed by his loving family and his second best friend, Maggie. Monaco Jr., James Vincent "Vinny" James Vincent "Vinny" Monaco, Jr., age 58, of Middletown, passed away Saturday May 21, 2005 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Arden Hill, Goshen, N.Y. Vinny was born in Middletown, N.Y. on December 29, 1946, the son of the late James Vincent "Jumbo" Monaco, Sr. and Edna Emelene Bromm Monaco, who survives him, of Middletown. He was a graduate of SUNY at Brockport. He taught Health Education and coached football at Frederick Douglas High School, Rochester, N.Y. for 15 years. Vinny returned to Middletown and resided at Park Manor Rehabilitation Center since 1989. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Middletown, N.Y. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Jamie Lynn Monaco; and son, James Vincent Monaco, III of Carlsbad, Calif.; two brothers, Gary Monaco and his wife, Kathy, of Bloomingburg and Ronald Monaco and his wife, Nancy, of Hillsdale, N.J.; his sister, Michele Trank and her husband, Joseph, of Salisbury Mills; several aunts, uncles, cousins and two nieces. Rohrman, Carl Carl Rohrman of Lake Huntington, N.Y., a retired dairy farmer and former employee of Gasko Meyer, died Saturday May 21, 2005 at Bethany Village in Bethany, Pa. He was 86. The son of the late Emil and Sabrina Rohrman, he was born October 24, 1918 in Cochecton, N.Y. He was married to the late Genevieve Rauch. Carl was a former member of the Lake Huntington Fire Department and the William Rohrman Post VFW. Survivors include one daughter, Linda Rohrman of San Diego, Calif.; two stepsons, Arthur Butzgy of Glastonbury, Conn. and Henry Butzgy of Liberty; as well as three grandsons; two great-granddaughters; and several nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces. Shloss, Anna Allegro Anna Allegro Shloss, a retired elementary school teacher in Rochester, N.Y., died Friday May 20, 2005 at St. Luke's Hospital in Newburgh, N.Y. She was 92. Born in Rochester, N.Y. on May 17, 1913, she was predeceased by her two husbands, Frank Allegro and then Richard Shloss. She is survived by two daughters, Annalisa Allegro of Rochester, N.Y., and Nancy Factor and her husband, Donald, of Newburgh; one sister, Yolanda DeLuzio of Rochester; two grandchildren, Adam and Jacob Factor of Newburgh; and several nieces and nephews. Staffieri, 64, of Roslyn, formerly of Milford, Pa., died May 11, 2005 at Abington Memorial Hospital, Abington, Pa., following a brief illness. He was an English teacher in the Delaware Valley School District, Milford, Pa. for 30 years. He retired in 1994. A graduate of McCaskey High School, he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary English and History from Millersville University. He was a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association and the National Education Association. While at Delaware Valley High School, he served as the yearbook advisor, student council advisor, and coordinator of student study abroad trips. Richard was an avid traveler and devoted pet owner. He enjoyed reading, completing New York Times crossword puzzles, and supporting numerous animal causes. His remarkable gift was the impact he had on the lives of students, friends, and family. Born in Lancaster, Pa., he was the son of the late Albert and Mary Somerfield Staffieri. He and his wife, Nancy Lushear Staffieri, would have been married 19 years on July 11. Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter, Holly Staffieri of Lincolnville, Maine and one stepdaughter, Kathy Lacken of Roslyn, and a sister, Virginia DiEugenio of Lancaster.
