Donald F. Allen, a lifetime Sullivan County resident, passed away Tuesday January 25, 2005, at Ruth Taylor Institute at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, N.Y. He was 75. He was born October 2, 1929 in Glen Wild to the late Harry and Alice Keating Allen. Donald was retired from his position at the Village of Monticello Highway Department. He was an Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict from 1951 - 1953. Survivors include his wife, Carol Hemmer Allen, at home; one son, Donald F. The son of the late Benjamin and Lillian Montanya Ashley, he was born June 2, 1921 in Warwick, N.Y. He was a Disabled American Veteran having served in the United States Army during World War II. Hyman Fromowitz, a resident of Poughkeepsie since 1989 and the co-owner of an egg farm in Cuddebackville for 40 years, died January 22, 2005, at home. He was 98. A member of Temple Beth-El, he was a past fire chief of the Cuddebackville Fire Department and Master Bridge player. He played AAA for the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1923 - 1925, and had the rare opportunity of meeting and training with Babe Ruth. He was drafted to play in the Majors but refused because it was not yet a lucrative profession. The son of Abraham Fromowitz and Rose Leichter, he was born December 9, 1906 in New York City. He was the widower of Sadie Feffer, his wife of 75 years, whom he married in Brooklyn on December 8, 1928. She died October 5, 2003. Surviving him are his daughter and son-in-law, Jo-Ann and Stephen Feldman of Pleasant Valley, N.Y. and grandchildren: Rebecca and Jake Feldman. Born in Medusa May 5, 1912 to Walter G. & Alice (Hubbard) Wright. Before his retirement in 1978, Porter was a cheesemaker at the Alleva Dairy in Medusa, until it closed in 1976, and then at Cappiello Bros. in Schenectady. He was a member of the Medusa United Church of Christ; a founder of Camp Medusa; Historian for the Town of Rensselaerville for many years; a member of the Town of Rensselaerville Historical Society and a charter member of the Medusa Fire Department. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Louise (Moore) Wright; a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Rev. Stuart Stiles, Howells, N.Y.; a son and daughter-in-law, Allyn and Alayne Wright, Medusa, N.Y.; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
