               SILAS GATES ESTATE
               State of New York
               Jefferson County, SS

Be it remembered that on the first day of October in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and thirty six personally appeared before me Benjamin
Wright, Surrogate of the County of Jefferson aforesaid Zeba Buel and Hiram
Buel the Subscribing witnesses to the will of Silas Gates late of the town of
Rodman in the County of Jefferson aforesaid deceased who being duly sworn did
severally depose and say that they saw the Said Silas Gates deceased Subscribe
the instrument which is hereunto annexed and impressed with the Seal of office
of the said Surrogate which said instrument purports to be the last will and
testament of the said Silas Gates deceased bearing date the 10th day of March
in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty eight That they
heard the said Silas Gates at the same time declare the said instrument to be
his last will, that they subscribed their names thereto as witnesses at the
request of the said Silas Gates and at the time thereof the said Silas Gates
was of sound mind of full age to execute a will and not under any restraint.
                    Witness Benjamin Wright Surrogate of the County of 
                    Jefferson in the town of Adams - the day and year
first 
                    above written and the seal of the Surrogate office of
the 
                    said county.

In the name of God Amen  I Silas Gates of Rodman County of Jefferson and State
of New York being weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory do
make and publish this my last will and testament in manner form following that
is to say.

 First I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife, Irana Gates the use of my
farm for her support so long as she remains my widow.  I do also give bequeath
to my son George Gates the Sum of One hundred Dollars payable out of my estate
in six months after my decease.  I also give and bequeath to my Son Silas
Gates Junior one dollar payable out of my estate after my decease.  I also
bequeath to my daughter Irana Gates Junior Single woman one fourth part of all
my real estate and all my household furniture.  I also bequeath to my son John
Gates Three fourth of all my real estate together with the whole of my
personal property except my household furniture.  I do further ordain that the
said John Gates shall pay all debts due from my estate together with the
several legacies above mentioned and I do hereby appoint Ora Cooley sole
Executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills
by me made In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand an seal this tenth
day of March one thousand eight hundred twenty eight.

Signed sealed and published and declared by the above named Silas Gates to be
his last will and in the presence of us who have subscribed our names as
witnessed in the presence of the testator.
