Born in Worcester, Mass., Oct. 20, 1902, he was the son of Frederick and Mabel (Moody) Durgin. He worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, and from 1958 until his retirement at the age of 62 at Pease Air Force Base. He established the well-known Christmas tree farm on the property in 1954. He served as a selectman for the town of Kittery from 1958 to 1961. He was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Sarah S. (Norton) Durgin, who died in 1993; and by two sons, Richard, who died in 1999, and Clayton, who died in 2000. Survivors include his son, Neil and his wife, Annette Durgin, of Williston, Vt.; a daughter, Ann and her husband, David Blake, of Kittery, with whom he lived; 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, at the Lucas and Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road, York, Maine. Visiting hours will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the spring in First Parish Cemetery. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the York Volunteer Ambulance Association, P.O.
