Wayne County, NC - John Moses Pipkin, son of Ernest & Hettie Pipkin ¤¤¤¤¤¤ GREENSBORO POET PIPKIN IS NAMED FESTIVAL JUDGE Daily News Rockingham Bureau WENTWORTH - Greensboro poet John Moses Pipkin has been named judge for the poetry competition on the 27th Annual Rockingham County Fine Arts Festival. A North Carolina native, Pipkin is a man of many interests. He is now a professor of religion at Guilford College near here, but before joining the college faculty nearly 10 years ago his occupations included farming and service as a minister in the Quaker Church. He is a member of the Society of Friends' World Committee and has traveled widely, including juants to Great Britain, Europe and East Africa for the committee. "Half a Love," recently became Pipkin's first published collection of poetry. His poems have appeared in a number of acclaimed literary anthologies and periodicals, including the magazines North Carolina Folklore, American Friends, Friends' Journal and Quaker Life. Pipkin is president of the North Carolina Poetry Society Inc., and also head of the Greensboro Writer's oranization. The 1970 edition of the "International Who's Who in Poetry" listed Pipkin as did the twelfth edition of Marquis' "Who's Who in the South and Southwest." Pipkin, his wife, and a teenage daughter live in Guilford College. He has two other married daughters. The deadline for entries in the festival's literary, musical and photographic categories is this Friday at noon. All entries in these categories must be submitted for judging at this time. Entry blanks must accompany the entries which must be submitted by noon Friday at any branch of the Rockingham County Library. Entry blanks for artistic work in other categories also must be submitted at a later date. --- John Moses Pipkin, Greensboro poet, will judge the poetry entries in the 27th annual Rockingham County Fine Arts Festival to be held April 18 through April 23 at Rockingham Community College Library. All entry blanks for work to be entered in the festival must be turned in at one of the Rockingham County Libary units by 12 noon on Friday, March 12. Literature, Music Compositions and photography must be turned in with the entry blanks on this date. Pipkin, a native of North Carolina, has had varied careers including farming, Quaker Ministry and almost a decade as a professor of Religion at Guilford College. Pipkin's first published collection of poetry, "Half A Love," came out recently.
