Robeson County, NC - Will of Stephen Lamb, 1859 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Will of Stephen Lamb Know all men by these present that I Stephen Lamb of the County of Robeson and the State of North Carolina being of sound mind and perfect memory do ordain and constitute this to be my last Will and Testament. First of all I commend my sole to God who give it to me and my body to the earth from whence it was taken after being Enterred at the disposition of friends and as to what worldly Estate it hath pleased God to hopes me with after all my just debts are paid. I give and bequeath and dispose of in the following manner to wit, Viz. First I give and bequeath unto my Grandaughter, Martha Spivey, a certain tract of land in the county afforesaid, Containing of sixty-six acres adjoining her other land in the west side of little Hog Swamp and a black woman by the name of Judy and her cld by the name of Dan and all her increase. A mare colt named Tobe. And my will and desire is that if the said Martha Spivey should dye leaving no issue of her body that the above mentioned and Negroes should go to my daughter Emily Edmon. And I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Sevicy Lamb all my stock of cattle, Hogs, and Sheep Household and kitchen furniture and Farming utensils of every kind except one Bed and its necessary furniture, that I give to the said Martha Spivey during her lifetime or widowhood And at her death I wish the same to be equally divided between the said Martha Spivey and the said Emily Edmon. I also give to my said wife Sevicy Lamb during her lifetime or widowhood Three Negroes Namely Tillis, Matthew and Penny and at her death or expiration of her widowhood I give the said Penny to my Grandson Stephen Edmon and the said Tillis and Matthew to my daughter Emily Edmon. And I give unto Isaac Spivey One Dollar in Money. And I give and bequeath all of rest of my property and Estate unto the said Emily Edmon. And I further appoint Doctor F Edmon Executor to this my last will and testament this 25th day of January 1855. Transscribers notes: Stephen Lamb was father of Ester Lamb, first wife of Isaac Spivey (he signed Marriage Certificate). Ester died giving birth to Martha who was raised in the home of Stephen Lamb. Doctor Edmon was the husband of Emily. Stephen's wife Sevicy was a Britt.
