URIAH PITMAN DEAD. Late Saturday evening a telegram was received from Whiteville by Mr. J. C. Pitman stating that his grandfather, Mr. Uriah Pitman, had been stricken with paralysis. Shortly after receiving the telegram Messrs. H. B. and J. C. Pitman, accompanied by their mother, left for Whiteville to attend the stricken relative. The sad intelligence was received Sunday that Mr. Pitman was dead. After receiving the stroke of paralysis he lingered until 3 o'clock in the morning. Mr. Pitman was a native of Robeson County and was a most excellent gentleman and useful citizen. His exact age is not known but he had passed his 85th year. Up to a few years ago Mr. Pitman lived on his farm in Wishart's Township. After the death of his wife he went to live with his daughter, Mrs. Frances Howell, in Whiteville, and has since resided there. He leaves many friends in the county who will learn with sorrow of his death.
