VIRGINIA RUTH KENNEDY YOUNG 

MORGANTON - Virginia Young, 81, formerly of Bakersville, died Wednesday, April 
16, 2008 at Grace Hospital in Morganton. She was the daughter of the late Lacy 
and Octavia Kennedy, and was previously employed at Western Piedmont College, 
where she taught doll-making. She attended Oak Hill United Methodist Church in 
Morganton and was a member of Mine Creek Baptist Church in Bakersville. She 
was a member and president of the Home Demonstration Club in Morganton, and 
worked with Crafts Unlimited as a dollmaker. She loved flowers and was an avid 
reader and seamstress.

Survivors include a daughter, Charla White of Morganton; a son, Richard Young 
of Nebo; one sister, Anna Lee Marsh of Chehalis, Wash.; two grandchildren; and 
one great-grandchild. 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mine Creek Baptist Church. 
Kenneth Murphy and Mark Denton officiated. Burial followed in the church 
cemetery. The family received friends from 1 p.m. until the service hour 
Saturday at the church. Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville assisted 
the family.
