He was born in Ledger, NC, a son of the late Avery Wellesley and Bessie Silver Willis. He was also preceded in death by his first wife Katherine Edythe Gibbs Willis; his second wife Lorine Peave Greene Willis; a sister, Jenny W. Collins; and two brothers, George Willis and Avery W. Willis, Jr. He was retired from the Conweld Corporation, as the Plant Manager, and Product Development Engineer. He served with the U.S. Army in WWIIwhere he received a Purple Heart Medal. He was a member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church. Survivors include: four daughters, Kitty W. Barnes of Hickory, Debbie W. Burkett of Lawrenceville, VA, Ginny W. Adkins of Huntington, WV, and Amy W. Mount of Raleigh; a sister, Ruth W. Connolly of Reidsville; a brother, Ralph Willis of Greensboro; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 11 at Beard Mortuary of Huntington, WV. Rev. Dr. Allen Reasons officiated. Burial was in the Bear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery of Spruce Pine, NC. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a memorial contribution to the Alzheimer Foundation.
