MITCHELL COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Guy Whitson, 5 Feb 2004

WESTMINSTER, MD - Guy Whitson, 73, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004 at 
the Carroll Hospital Center. A native of Mitchell County, he was the 
son of the late Sam and Nervia Bowman Whitson. He was also preceded in 
death by sisters, Hedy Von Hagel, Maggie Whitson and Elizabeth Hill; 
and brothers, Sam, John, Jeff, Taylor, Calvin, Carr and Frank Whitson, 
and Darrell Gardner. He was retired from Baltimore Gas and Electric 
Company and was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, the Door to 
Virtue Masonic Lodge 46 AF & AM, The Bee Hive, Boumi Temple, Knights 
Templar, Knights of Mecca and the VFW Molleville Farm Post 467 Men's 
Auxiliary.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Z. Whitson of the home; a daughter, 
Deborah Ebersole of Westminster; a son, G. Michael Whitson of Westminster; 
sisters, Polly Ollis and Etta Buchanan, both of Bakersville, Ethel Schaeffer 
of Westminster, and Opal Ford of Fort Myers, FL; a brother, Coy Whitson of 
Statesville; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several 
nieces, nephews and cousins. 
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at Fletcher Funeral Home. 
Rev. Roger Strait officiated. Burial was in Zion United Methodist Church 
Cemetery. The family received friends from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday 
at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Carroll Hospice,
