Born in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Wiss Tate Wilson and Inez Ledford Wilson. He was also preceded in death by a son, Samuel Keith Wilson; and brothers, Ralph and Joe Wilson. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II and for 57 years was a member of the "Old Hickory" 30th Infantry Division Association, Tarheel Chapter. For 60 years, he was a Master Mason and a member of Lodge #357 in Bakersville. He was a retired lieutenant with the Department of Corrections, McDowell County unit, and was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Morganton. Surviving include his wife, Wilma Etta Putnam Wilson of the home; a son, Phillip B. Wilson of Morganton; a daughter, Belinda Inez Wilson of Raleigh; a sister, Melba Bennett of Morganton; a brother, Ray K. Wilson of Bakersville; and one grandson. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Morganton. Dr. Thomas A. Bland, Jr. officiated. A Masonic service was conducted by Catawba Valley Masonic Lodge #217. A graveside service was held at 3 p.m., Saturday at Snow Hill Cemetery in Bakersville with Masonic rites by Lodge #357 and military honors by V.F.W. Post 8060, Spruce Pine. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Sossoman Funeral Home.
