CORNELL MCGEE VANCE 

SPRUCE PINE - Cornell McGee Vance, 77, died Saturday, July 7, 2007 at her 
home. She was the daughter of the late Baxter Cornelius and Eula McKinney 
McGee. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Lillian Pittman, Ruby 
Buchanan and Mary Lee Hall; and two brothers, Sam and Garland McGee. She was a 
former employee of American Thread Company and a member of Grassy Creek 
Baptist Church.

Survivors incude her husband, Willard Gordon "Dick" Vance of the home; three 
daughters, Sondra Phillips of Boone, Diane Greene of Pensacola, Fla., and 
Beverly Burleson of Conover; a sister, Betty Wiseman of Spruce Pine; five 
grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at Grassy Creek Baptist Church. 
Revs. Matthew Mills, Larry Greene and Ken Hollifield officiated. Burial 
followed in Grassy Creek Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Grassy 
Creek Baptist Church, Music Department, c/o John Hall; or to Hospice of 
Mitchell County, P.O. Box 38, Spruce Pine, NC 28777. Henline-Hughes Funeral 
Home in Bakersville assisted the family.
