SPARKS BAKERSVILLE – Glen P. Sparks, 74, of John Sparks Road, died Friday, September 7, 2001 at Spruce Pine Community Hospital. He was the son of the late Grover and Edith Stamey Sparks. A member of Cub Creek Baptist Church, he was an attendant for Mitchell County Ambulance Service. He was a construction foreman and U.S. Navy veteran. Survivors include his wife, Beulah L. Sparks of the home; son, Gregory K. Sparks of Gray, TN; two daughters, Susan Miller of Bakersville, and Rita Benfield of Marion; one sister, Maxine Pavlis of Baltimore, MD; a twin brother, Guy Sparks of Bakersville; seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held 8 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville. Revs. Clifford Willis and G.B. Garland officiated. Burial was at 11 a.m. Monday in Bailey Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home unday from 6 p.m. until the service hour.
