JACK SMITH

SPRUCE PINE – Jack Smith, 69, of Forest Fisher Road, died Tuesday, May 29, 
2001 in Spruce Pine Community Hospital. He was the son of the late Charlie and 
Lucy Gouge Smith. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Beatrice 
Burleson; and brothers, Albert Smith and Dee Smith. He attended Freedom
Baptist Church and was retired from the N.C. Department of Corrections.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Ella Buchanan Smith; sons, Gene Smith and 
Dean Smith, both of Spruce Pine; a sister, Nema Ellis of Toledo, OH; and five 
grandchilkdren.
Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Thursday at Freedom Baptist Church. Revs. 
David Troutman and Luther Carver officiated. Burial was in Mt. Carmel Cemetery 
at 10 a.m. Friday. The family received friends from 6 p.m. until the service 
hour. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Mitchell County, P.O. Box 
38, Spruce Pine, NC 28777. Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine was in charge of
arrangements.
