MITCHELL COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - James (Junior) McKinney, 22 Oct 2003 ----¤¤¤¤---- JAMES MCKINNEY SPRUCE PINE - James (Junior) McKinney, 80, of Franklintown Road and Sunset Drive in Goodland, FL, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003. He was the son of the late James B. McKinney Sr. and Gertrude Huskins McKinney, and the husband of the late Edith Stamey McKinney. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Buck McKinney. A goldsmith and jewelry designer, he owned and operated The Gem Shop on the Mitchell/Avery county line. He was a former member of the Southern Highlands Handicraft Guild. Survivors include his wife, Gloria B. McKinney of the home; a son, Larry McKinney of Spruce Pine; a daughter, Linda Harrison of Spruce Pine; sisters, Jewell Phillips, Joyce Strickler and JoAnn Buchanan, all of Spruce Pine; step daughters, Sheila Speight of Morganton, Sherry Bartlett of Bakersville, and Susan Burleson of Spruce Pine; a stepson, Don Pendley of Nebo; two grandchildren; 13 step grandchildren; and 14 step great grandchildren. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery. Rev. Jim White and Father Chris Gober officiated. The family received friends from 6-9 p.m. Friday at Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine.
