PEARL BUCHANAN AYERS
BAKERSVILLE – Pearl Buchanan Ayers, 97, of George McKinney Road, died 
Saturday, June 22, 2002 in Spruce Pine Community Hospital. She was the 
daughter of the late James Matthew and Nancy Jane McKinney Buchanan, and 
wife of the late Charlie Ayers. She was a homemaker and the oldest member 
of McKinney Cove Baptist Church.
Survivors include daughters, Betty Bryant of Bakersville, Mary Helen Goins 
of Childersburg, AL, and Marlene Pittman of Bakersville; a son, Kenneth 
Ayers of Spruce Pine; nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and two 
great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at McKinney Cove Baptist 
Church. Revs. Don Ford and Russell McKinney officiated. Burial followed in 
McKinney Cove Cemetery. The family received friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday at 
the church. Memorial donations may be made to McKinney Cove Baptist Church, 
P.O. Box 955, Bakersville, NC 28705, or Hospice of Mitchell County, P.O. Box 
38, Spruce Pine, NC 28777. Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville was in 
charge of arrangements.
