                      TRIBUTE OF RESPECT
   Charlotte, Jan. 27, 1848
   At a meeting of the Phalanx Lodge # 31, held at their Lodge Room on the 
26th inst., the following resolutions were adopted, viz.:
   Resolved, That the death of our beloved brother, HENRY C. OWENS, is 
regarded by the members of this Lodge as a deep affliction to them, and a 
deplorable calamity to the Masonic Institution, of whose principles his life 
was an example.
   Resolved, That the members of this Lodge extend to the family of our 
deceased Brother their sincere sympathy, in the afflicting bereavement whidch 
has deprived them of a husband and father.
   Resolved, That in token of their respect for the memory of the deceased, we 
will wear the usual badge of mourning for 30 days.
   Resolved, That the Secretary of this Lodge, furnish the family of the 
deceased with a copy of the above resolutions and also cause the same to be 
published in the papers of this place.
