MADISON COUNTY, NC - OBITUARY - Christey Porter Rector, 25 Sep 1932 ----¤¤¤¤---- Asheville Citizens Newspaper 9-27-1932 Microfilm page 196 Christey Porter Rector, age 42, of near Marshall, died at the U. S. Veterans Hospital at Oteen Sunday morning after a brief illness. He was well known in Marshall, being one of the first managers of the A & P store in Marshall, later holding a position with the Model Grocery. Funeral services were at 2:30 P.M. Monday afternoon at Oak Ridge Community Church in the Rector settlement near Marshall. He served in the regular army for 14 years and was overseas for four years as a member of the Coast Artillery. He was a member of post No. 82, Veterans of Foreign Wars at Pittsburgh, Penn. Members of Loughran Mallory Grant post, Veterans of Foreign Wars at Asheville, acted as pallbearers. Mr. Rector is survived by his widow; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Rector; and four sisters, Mrs. Fred Springer, Mrs. E. V.
