MACON COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - WILLIAM N. ALLEN, Nov. 14, 1891 Published in the Franklin Press, Dec. 2, 1891 - Vol. VI, No. 37 OBITUARY William N. Allen, son of David Allen, was born in Rutherford Co, NC, Sept. 17, 1817, and moved to macon Co, in the early part of his life where he became acquainted with Martha M. Carson, who he selected to be an equal sharer in all the enjoyments and sorrows of his life. He made choice of farming for a livelihood which business engaged his time and ability to the extent of characterizing him as one of the leading and more successful farmers in the county. When well advanced in years, he was influenced by the preaching of Rev. George Maiden to accept Christ as his Saviour and he indentified himself as a friend of Christ by joining the Methodist Church, since which time his faithfulness was evinced by his orderly wakl and more pious conversation. in his dealings, he was strict, but honest. He never went hurridly into anything, but always with consideration whether it would be hurtful to his fellow men. He procured a comfortable living and contributed liberally to the support of benevolent objects. He had been badly diseased for several years, and for the last two or three years he was a great sufferer with lung affections. But in all of his afflictions he was patient, calm and resigned and only a few hours before his death said that he was ready at any time for the change to come, and on Nov. 14th 1891 fell asleep in his 75th year.
