Johnston County, NC - Nicholas Rose - Division of Slaves, 1855 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Johnston County Deed Book E [1853-1881], pgs 18-19 State of North Carolina } Johnston County } To the Worshipful the Justices of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions February Term 1855 In obedience to an order from your worships, from November Term last of this Court, to the undersigned Commissioners to divide the following Slaves, formerly the property of Nicholas Rose dec'd James, Hannah, Squire, Isaac, Joannah, Patsey, Rachael, Betsey, Martin, Vina, Esther, Wiley, and Juliann, among the Heirs of said dec'd in severalty, beg leave to report, that they have purformed the duty assigned them, except, as to James, who your Commissioners believe to be Superannuated, and being unwilling to tax one of the Heirs with him, have left him in common Stock, or in the hands of the Executors to be disposed of as they deem best, there were also an increase of two children since the petition was filed, Betsey and Emaline which were also divided; the value of those divided was estimated at ($7525) seven thousand five hundred and twenty five dollars, making each share ($940.62 1/2) nine hundred and forty 62 1/2 dollars which was numbered and drawn as follows Lot No. 1 - Drawn by William N. Rose, Negro boy Squire valued at ($1150) eleven hundred and fifty dollars, and pays ($209.37 1/2) two hundred and nine 37 1/2 dollars as follows to lot No. 4 ($140.62 1/2) one hundred and forty 62 1/2 dollars and to lot No. 5 ($68.75) sixty eight 75/100 dollars Lot No. 2 - Drawn by George P. Rose, Negro woman Patsey and child Emaline valued at ($900) nine hundred dollars and receives ($40.62 1/2) forty 62 1/2 dollars from lot No. 7 ($6.25) six 25/100 dollars and from lot No. 6 ($34.37 1/2) thirty four 37 1/2 dollars Lot No. 3 - Drawn by Ransom Lee, in right of his wife formerly Lucy Rose, Negro woman Rachael and child Betsey, valued at ($900) nine hundred dollars and receives ($40.62 1/2) forty 62 1/2 dollars from lot No 7 Lot No. 4 - Drawn by Ira W.
