Gates County, NC - Isaac Pipkin & Mary Goodman Marriage Certificate, 1797 ¤¤¤¤¤¤ STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA KNOW all Men by these Presents, That We Isaac Pipkin Junr and William Goodman Junr both of Gates County & State aforesaid are held and firmly bound unto his Excellency Samuel Ashe Esquire, Governor, Captain-General and Commander in Chief of the State aforesaid, in the just and full Sum of Five Hundred Pounds, current Money of the State aforesaid, to be paid to his Excellency the Governor, his Successors or Assigns : To the which Payment well and truly made, We do bind ourselves, and each of us, our and each of our Heirs, Executors, Administrators and assigns, jointly and severally, firmly by these Presents. Sealed with our seals, and dated this Second Day of August One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety Seven. THE Condition of this Obligation is such, that whereas the above bound Isaac Pipkin hath made Application for a License for a Marriage to be celebrated between him and Mary Goodman of the County of Gates. Now in Case it shall not appear thereafter that there is any lawful Cause to obstruct the said Marriage, then this Obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full Force and Virtue.
