Burke County Jan the 13th 1849 Dear Cousin I take my pen in hand to inform you that I am Still in the land of the living and enjoying a reasonable portion of heath hopeing these few lines may find you and family enjoying the same. My Farther and family is all well at present. So is our friends generally. I believe though there has been a great deal of sickness in my knowledge one place and another and some lately. Little John _less died last Saturday morning and Monre is very bad off now. Soposed to be the neumonia and old Miss Webb Thomas. Webbs mother died last Thursday I heard of several deaths but not immediatly in our Settlement. There has been several weddings round about this fall and winter of which I will State a few of . Mr William Wakefield married Miss Melinda Roadrid__. Cousin Almira Scott married a Mr John Conly son of Robert Conly dec, and Wesly Hunter married a Miss Fox, Alfred Fox daughter, Eliza and Mr Joshua Gibbs married Miss Sofrona Conly. I am not married myself yet nor neither do I no why I shall be. Girdine and Charles & myself is knocking along much after the old sort trying to do as well as we can courting a little when it suites us. I am Teaching school in our own district now. I have thought of coming out to see this winter. Girdine and myself but now I am ingaged and will till spring. Shall request one thing of you if it will not be two much trouble to you I wish you to see your neighbours and enquire what for a chance it would be for me to bring Balie Peyton there in the Spring. I have him good fir and would like to move him some where this Spring. You know the horse and his character and pehaps would know whether he would do well or not Please to give and answer as soon as its convenient Nothing more but remains yours with respect give my compliments to any think proper to equire after me and except of the same your self.
