Butler ==================================================================== Bladen County, NC, Deed Book 8 pg 570 This indenture made the 5th day of March AD 1840 between James Smith, Sr. of the County of Bladen and state of North Carolina of the one part and John Smith his son of the same county and state foresaid of the other part. Witnesseth that said James Smith do sell for the natural love and affection which I have and do bear to my son as also for the better maintenance and prefurment of said John Smith and for divers other causes and considerations I give and grant and by these presents do give and grant unto my said son John Smith a certain piece or parcel of land situate[d] lying and being in the said county of Bladen and state aforesaid bounded as follows on the NE side of Turnbull containing 115 acres more or less. Begining at a water oak on the swamp and runs E 49 chains, 50 links to a stake then N 38 degs W 44 chains and 50 links to a pine then S 63 N 18 chains with Cooks line on the said James Smiths line to the run of the creek then with the run of the creek to the beginning. To have and to hold the said land with all its appurtenances unto the said John Smith his heirs Exec[utors] & Admin [istrators] & assigns forever and the said James Smith do for himself his heirs and assigns Exec[utors] & Admin [istrators]. warrant & forever defend the said land & premises unto the said John Smith and his heirs against the lawful claims of any person or persons whatsoever. In witness whereof the said James Smith have hereinto set my hand and seal the day and year above mention.
