Bladen County, NC - Bedsole Family Ancestors/Descendants ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ BEDSOLE FAMILY ANCESTORS/DESCENDANTS Country Of Origin for the surname Bedsole is Prussia which became Germany. Prior to Prussia, there are no records, so Germany in the country of origin, for practical matters. In the German language, Bedsole is spelled BETZOLD, but pronounced as Bedsole. 1. The first Bedsole ancestor into this country was William Henry Bledsoe, (Sr.), from Germany as Wilhelm Heinrich Betzold. He was most likely born 1690-1710. His name was written by an english Scribe upon boarding the ship as; William Henry Bledsoe, since these names were close in english spellings to his German names. Also, except for Scribes, none of the Bedsole ancestors could read, write or spell until about 1800. It appears William arrived here with brothers Abraham and Isaac. William married and had sons William Jr., Elisha, Vincent and John Bedsole, all born between 1726 and 1735. I have been unable to find his wifes name, or any more of his children, if any. William Henry Bedsole, Jr. was born in Virginia in 1727, in St. Marys Parish, Virginia, but moved to Beaverdam, NC (Bladen County), in 1747, together with his 3 brothers. He married Rhoda West, b. 1730,(a daughter of James West), in 1748 in NC. A son, Thomas Bedsole, (Sr) was born in 1750 at Beaverdam. They also had a son John Bedsole, b. 1753. Thomas Sr. married Rebecca Jones, b. 1753, in 1770, at Beaverdam, NC. The Bedsole ancestor/Descendant list contains many thousands of name, dates and places and is contained in the Bedsole History Book, 1690-1990, along with all the old land records, etc, which were found over a period of 53 years of hard work.
