Abbott, 57, Lewistown, died Friday morning at the Central Montana Hospital. ******************************************************************************************** JESSE DONALD ABEL Lewistown Paper - 3-27-1987 Jesse Donald Abel, 81, longtime Lewistown resident, died Friday morning at the Central Montana Hospital after an extended illness. He was born June 3, 1905 at Monona, Iowa, the son of August and Mamie Abel. He received his schooling at Monona and spent his early life there. On October 3, 1927 he married Bertha Pixler in McGregor, Iowa. In 1937 they moved to Lewistown where he operated the Tee Pee Gas Station and later the Texaco Service Station. After selling his station Abel went to work as a self-employed mechanic at his shop at his residence. He retired in 1982 and since that time he had continued to live in Lewistown. He was a member of the Lewistown Eagles Lodge. Abel is survived by his wife, Bertha of Lewistown, one son, Donald Dean Abel of Stoughton, WI; one sister Fern Bixemam of Denver, CO; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Organist Barbara Harchenko accompanied Tony Brown on "The Green, Green Grass of home:" and "Just a closer Walk with Thee." Pallbearers were Clayton Barkhoff, Eldon Beck, Bob Dion, Rad Pratt, Jack Shaver and Arthur Tucker. Honorary pallbearers were Jack Barney, Bill Mee, Russell Johnson and Austin Tayer. Adams Nana E. Adams, 79, Lewistown, died Thursday at a local nursing home following an extended illness. She was born April 8, 1899, in Medicine Lodge, KS. the daughter of William and Buena Marquand. She received her education in Medicine Lodge and on Jan. 15, 1917 she was united marriage to Benjamin H. Adams in Alva, Okla. After their marriage they lived in New Mexico, Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado before settling in the Valentine area in 1945. They lived there until moving to Lewistown in 1955, He died in1973 and she continued to live in Lewistown. She was a marvelous cook and loved to do needlework. She also sent several of her grandchildren through high school in Lewistown. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lloyd (Doralee) Coldiron of Hotchkiss, CO., and Mrs. Merlin (Ruth) Busenbark of Roy; two sisters, Nora Redwine of Lake City, KS., and Stella Williams of Haysville, KS; 1O grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Nana E. Adams will be Monday at 2 p.m., in the Cloyd Chapel with the Rev. Richard Metzger of Emmanuel Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens of Lewistown. Adams - 1990 ? Surname: ADAMS, NEILL, MORGAN, BRYSON, HUENNEKENS Ruth V. Adams Lewistown Paper Lewistown, MT Ruth V. Adams, 64, died at her home April 30, after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Adams was born in Lewistown September 1, 1925, the daughter of William and Margaret Neill. She lived in Roy, until 1934 when her parents moved into Lewistown where she finished her schooling. After graduation from Fergus High School in 1943, she moved to Portland, Oregon to work. She married James R. Adams, September 22, 1946 in Portland. They lived in Portland until 1963, when they moved to Great Falls. They later moved to Plentywood and then to Lewistown in 1968. In 1962 they moved to Columbus and in 1976 they moved back to Portland. In 1980 they moved to Great Falls again, in 1983 to Circle, then to Beach, North Dakota until 1989 when moved back to Lewistown. Her husband worked with nursing homes and hospitals. She worked as a grocery clerk and checker. While living in Lewistown, she worked for the Eck Pharmacy. Mrs. Adams was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was very active in her church affiliations. Survivors include her husband, James of Lewistown; a son William J. Adams of Shepherd; three sisters, Ann Morgan and Helen Bryson, both of Lewistown; Pearly Huennekens of Brush Prairie, Washington; a brother Lewis Neill of Brennon, Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial service is scheduled for Friday, May 4, 2:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church. Pastor Dave McConnell will officiate. The Creel-Morrison-Retz Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Fergus County Lois Jeanette Allen, 85. of Billings, passed away Monday, Sept, 19, at Valle Vista Manor. She was born March 2. 1909, in York, NE, to Harry and Cora Martin. In 1913, the family moved to Montana and homesteaded at Kachia in Fergus County. Lois graduated from Fergus County High School in 1927 and continued her education at the Wisconsin School of Music, earning teaching degrees in piano and violin. On Aug. 24, 1934. she married Burleigh K. Allen in Madison, WI, Burleigh died Nov. 22, 1989. Lois devoted her life to a career in music. She received her Musicians Union card in 1925 and began playing for country dances while still in high school She spent 34 years on a church organ bench and in 1983, retired from Smith Funeral Home in Billings after 26 years of service. Besides teaching music, she also played for dance classes, recitals and entertained in hotel lobbies and lounges. These included the Stagecoach Inn in West Yellowstone and the Gallatin Gateway Inn. On Sept. 1, 1953, she made Montana television history by performing on the first live telecast in the state. The telecast originated from radio station KOPR in Butte, for whom she did a live program of organ music every night from the Finlen Hotel. Lois was a life member of Marie Chapter 36 O.E.S. and Ladies of the G.A.R. in Lewistown. She was also a member of the American Federation of Musicians 709 in Bozeman, and a life member of the American Federation of Musicians 642 in Helena. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Virginia Kalina, and a brother, DeLette Martin. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Cora and Bill Brew, of Billings: grandsons, Bill Brew of Scottsdale, AZ., and Jamie and Mike Brew of Billings: one sister, Murna J. Southworth of Lewistown; and one brother, Richard T. Martin of Aurora, OR. Funeral services were Friday, Sept. 23 at Smith Downtown Chapel in Billings. Interment was in the Mountview Cemetery. Box 20673, Billings, Moot. 59104. **************************************************************************************************** CLARA AMELIA ANDERSON Lewistown paper - no date given Clara Amelia Anderson, 95, longtime Central Montana area resident, died Friday morning at the Central Montana Nursing Home after a short illness. She was born October 16, 1889, at Crookston, MN, the daughter of Anders and Emma Monson. She received her education at Crookston, and November 17, 1914 was united in marriage to Hilmer Anderson at Crookston. After her marriage, Mrs. Anderson moved to Benzene north of Jordan where she and her husband homesteaded. She later returned to Minnesota where she lived for a short time before moving back to the homestead. She later lived at Glengary and Hanover before moving to Lewistown in 1923 where she had lived until the time of her death. Life on the homestead was a rough life putting up with rough cowboys, rattlesnakes, gumbo, and Indians. Mrs. Anderson is survived by four sons; Henry C. of Princeton, ID; Emil A. of Lewistown, Elmer G of Butte and Stanley M of Belle Fourche, SD; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren: and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, and her parents. Funeral services were held for Mrs. Anderson from the Cloyd Chapel Tuesday afternoon at 2 with Roger Gripe of the Jehovah Witness Church officiating. Interment followed in the Lewistown City Cemetery. Barbara Harchenko played the organ. The pall bearers were Richard Mardikian. Anstett, born March 16, 1915, on a homestead near Grass Range to Charles Henry and Mary Rappe Anstett, died June 9, 1998, in the Pioneer Medical Center in Big Timber. On Dec. 21, 1967, he married Dolores Wallrich Fahey, his wartime sweetheart, in Billings. After graduating from Grass Range High School he held a drafting position with McDonnell/Douglas aircraft and was then drafted into the army where he served in an anti-aircraft unit in the Pacific during WWII. He returned to Billings to work as a building contractor. He took great pride in craftsmanship and left his legacy in many homes. In 1971, he and Dolores (Dee) built their retirement home on the Boulder River south of McLeod where they lived until 1996. They joined the snowbirds in 1986, enjoying winters in sunny Arizona. They were active in the Gila Mountain United Methodist Church, Yuma, Ariz. Arthur enjoyed a passion for always wanting to "invent a better mousetrap." If he wasn't planning it in his mind, he was in the shop building it! Arthur's loyalty to family and friends knew no bounds and will be long remembered. He took such joy in reminiscing about hunting trips, army buddies, construction projects and being raised on a homestead. Arthur was a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and belonged to Doric Lodge in Big Timber. He belonged to the Al Bedoo Temple of Billings. He is survived by his wife, Dee; niece, Donna Green McKamy and husband, Richard of Billings; grandniece, Vonnie Richards of Phoenix, Ariz.; a nephew and a cousin. Mrs. Apple was a very active member of the Methodist Church and this year the Woman's Society of Christian Service, presented her with a certificate and pin for her years service in the church.
