Horton wphor@sbcglobal.net November 1, 2001 Itawamba County, Mississippi Deed Record Book No. 6, page 411 This Indenture made and entered into this Twenty ninth day of January in the year of our Lord One thousand Eight-Hundred and Forty Seven (1847) between BEN JOHNSON of the City of Vicksburg in the County of Warren and State of Mississippi of the first part and HENRY CHILDRESS of the County of Itawamba in the same State of the second part witnesseth that the said BEN JOHNSON for and in consideration of the sum of Three hundred and seventy five Dollars to him in hand paid by the said HENRY CHILDERS the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged hat this day granted bargained sold and conveyed and by these presents doth grant bargained sell and convey unto the said HENRY CHILDRESS and to his heirs and assigns forever the south east quarter of Section Thirteen in Township Seven or Range Six East containing 173-45/100 acres being in the County of Itawamba in said State of Mississippi. To have and to hold the above described land with all the appertenances thereunto belonging to the said HENRY CHILDERS and to his heirs and assigns in fee simple forever and the said party of the first part for himself his heirs Executors and administrators doth hereby covenant and agree to and with the said HENRY CHILDERS his heirs Executors administrators and assigns that the said party of the first part will and his heirs Executors & administrators shall forever warrant and defend the title to said granted Land and premises against the lawful claim or claims of all and every person or persons whatsoever both at law and in Equity. In testimony whereof the said party of the first part hath hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal the day and year first above written. CHILDERS was my great-great grandfather, originally from South Carolina, with a short stay in Alabama, and was listed on the 1850 Itawamba County, MS census. As with many documents of that time period, the name of CHILDERS was often spelled as CHILDRESS, even in the same document.
