Biographical Sketch of William T. Miller - Andrew County, Missouri

William T. Miller, a farmer and stock raiser of Jackson Township, was
born in Hancock County, IN., August 16, 1835.  He is the seventh of
nine children born to Abram and Mary (Thompson) Miller; the former was
a native of New Jersey, and the latter of North Carolina.  In early 
life the father worked in the shipyard of Rich Girard in Philadelphia,
but later engaged in farming in Ohio, Indiana and Missouri.  He settled
in Andrew County in the summer of 1846, and died there in 1861, at
seventy-six years of age.  He had been married twice:  first, to Miss
Sarah Porch, of New Jersey; she died in Ohio.  He married the
mother of our subject in Indiana; she died in Andrew County on March
20, 1870.  The father was a Republican, and he and wife died members
of the Methodist Episcopal Church.  William T. came with his parents 
to Missouri when ten years of age, and there received a common-school
education.  He grew to manhood on his father's farm, and has ever since
followed agricultural pursuits.  In January, 1859, he wedded Miss
Charity Burns, of Morgan County, IN.  At the death of his father, he 
and brother, Thomas, came in possession of the home place, but he
bought his brother's share about 1864.  He owns 300 acres of land, upon
which is a good residence, built in 1875.  He is a progressive man, and
enjoys the comforts of a good home.  He has never sought or filled any
public office except that of magistrate, which office he filled awhile
in a satisfactory manner.  He and wife are worthy members of the
Methodist Episcopal Church.
