EMMA ALWIN DIES HERE AT 84 Funeral Services for Early Day Resident To Be Held Wednesday Mrs. Emma Alwin, 84, one of the pioneer residents of West Newton and Cottonwood townships, died at a New Ulm hospital Sunday at 2:45 p.m. She had been a patient there since Aug. 11. Funeral services will be at the Minnesota Valley Funeral home Wednesday at 1:45 p.m. and in the Methodist church at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the City cemetery. The body will be at the Minnesota Valley funeral home Tuesday afternoon and evening and until the funeral hour Wednesday. Mrs. Alwin completed her 66th year as a member of the Methodist church in May. She was also a member of the Ladies Aid society for many years. Emma Wilhelmina Strate, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Strate, early residents of West Newton township, was born May 11, 1865. She grew to womanhood on the Strate farm and was married to Rudolph E. Alwin in the West Newton Methodist church, Nov. 16, 1885. Mr. and Mrs. Alwin took up their residence on the old Alwin farm on the banks of the Cottonwood river after marriage and resided there until 1917, when they retired and moved to New Ulm. Mr. Alwin died in February 1935. Mr. and Mrs. Alwin were the parents of 10 children. Two died in infancy. The surviving children are: Ervin C. Alwin, New Ulm; Miss Hilda Alwin, Minneapolis; Mrs. Roy (Esther) Jeffers, Minneapolis; Mrs. Herman (Alma) Kopiske, Olivia; Wesley Alwin, Minneapolis; Mrs. Lorne (Laura) Elliott, Los Angeles; Mrs. H. L. (Lillian) Peterson, Webster City, Iowa. There are nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Three brothers, Fred Strate, Canada; William Strate, New Ulm, and Wilbur Strate, Clarkfield, and one sister, Mrs. Louis (Lena) Arhart, Gibbon, also survive.
