Nosworthy retired in 1946 after serving the Police Department since 1920. He moved to Washington for his health shortly thereafter. During his career, from a novice patrolman to the captor of many gunmen, he earned 13 precinct citations and seven departmental citations, a remarkable record. In the holdup bureau as a detective sergeant for a number of years, he was given charge of the investigative detail to the prosecutor's office. For his work there he was promoted to inspector in 1942 by the then Commissioner Frank D. Eaman. Afte that he became chief of the holdup bureau for a short time. Nosworthy was active in the Police Post No. 161, American Legion, which he served as Commander in 1944. He was a veteran of World War I. His wife Edna, survives.
