Maurice Weiers (Morey), 92, of Ludington, Mich., passed away on November 10, 
2007 at Ludington Memorial Hospital, Ludington, Michigan.  

He was born April 16, 1915 in Ionia, Mich.  He was the son of Lloyd and Violet 
(Woodworth) Weiers.  He attended Arthur Hill High School and graduated in 
1933.  Maurice was a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Army 
as Military Police.  Maurice married Dorothy Olshack on April 30, 1941 in 
Ionia, Mich. at the St. John’s Lutheran Church.  He worked as a grounds 
foreman at the Ionia State Hospital for 30 years, retiring in 1977.  He was a 
life member of both the American Legion and Loyal Order of the Moose.  He also 
was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and Midland Civitan.  Maurice’s 
hobbies included fishing, camping, traveling, bowling, scouting and church 
activities.

Maurice is survived by sons David (Judy) Weiers of Branch, Mich., Gregory 
(Tamara Bonham) Weiers, of Tustin, Mich.; daughter, Barbara (Dan) Hiemstra of 
Tualatin, Ore.; grandchildren, Daniel, Matthew, Brenda, James, Michelle, 
Michael and Christopher and 12 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death 
by his beloved wife Dorothy; brother, Eldin Weiers; sister, Lovella 
Handlovits; daughter-in-law, Susan.

A memorial service for Maurice will be held on December 1, 2007 at St. John’s 
Episcopal Church in Ionia, Mich. at 1 p.m. with Reverend Father Kenneth Taber 
officiating.  A graveside eservice will follow at Sunset Memorial Garden, 
located on M-66 in Ionia, Mich.  Memorial contributions may be directed to the 
Maurice and Dorothy Weiers Memorial, at the St. John’s Episcopal Church 
located at 107 West Washington Street, Ionia, Michigan 48846.
