The Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard, Friday, January 4, 1946
Steven Clark Thorne, 83, a farmer of Bushnell township since 1899, died at his 
home in Orleans Friday morning at 1:30 a.m. after a brief illness.  Mr. Thorne 
was born in Thorneville, Lapeer county at the family homestead, the son of Mr. 
and Mrs. Clark Thorne who were among the first settlers of that community.  

He attended the South State Teacher’s college and the Ladoga Institute of 
Indiana, and most of his early life was devoted to teaching in the Lapeer 
county schools.  In 1888 he married Ella Tyler of Bushnell and they moved to a 
farm in Hadley township where they resided 11 years.  In 1899 they came to a 
farm in Bushnell township where he was engaged in farming until failing health 
compelled him to retire seven years ago.  He then moved to Orleans.  

His wife and son preceded him in death five years ago.  He is survived by 
three daughters who were with him at the time of his death.

Funeral services will be held from the Stebbins funeral home at Sheridan 
Sunday at 2 o’clock with the Rev. Lewis Herrick officiating.  Interment will 
be at the Sunnyhill cemetery near Palo.
