She had been sick for some time, and two physicians from Ann Arbor came for consultation, accompanied by a nurse. They decided it to be a case of appendicitis, and she was prepared for an operation, but died on the table before the operation was really commenced. She was 19 years old, a graduate of the grammar department of the Ionia schools in class of 1902, and had commenced her high school course here. The case is a very sad one, especially so far as it relates to the mother, Mrs. Mary Swartout, with whom the girl lived as her chief companion and comfort. The father has been absent for some time, being now in Dakota, and the only brother of decedent is supposed to be somewhere in Nebraska, but just where is not know. Subsequent Publication: Thursday, January 7, 1904 The funeral of Miss Isabel Swartout will be tomorrow at eleven o’clock. Let all the members of Ionia hive who wish to go be at Fleming’s or Lauster’s grocery by 9 o’clock.
