Johnanna Sears, 78, of Portland, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2003.  She 
was born on October 4, 1924 in Vaughns Mill, Kentucky, the daughter of John 
and Minnie (Tipton) Bartus.

Mrs. Sears was a member of the Portland Seventh Day Adventist Church.  She 
graduated from Cedar Lake Academy in 1942, and married Wallace Sears on April 
25, 1943 and together they shared 60 years of marriage.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; two children, Charlene Sears 
Patterson and Raymond Sears; brother, Larry Hanselman.

Surviving are her husband, Wallace; two sons, John (Linda) Sears of Battle 
Creek and Loren (Catherine) Sears of Hastings; seven grandchildren and three 
great-grandchildren; sister, Edith (Robert) Costie of St. Joseph.

The funeral service will be conducted by Pastors Sheldon Seltzer, William 
Cowin and Christopher James at 2 p.m. Sunday, at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral 
Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland with interment following at East Sebewa 
Cemetery, Sebewa Township.  The family will receive friends at the funeral 
home from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday.

For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Seventh Day 
Adventist Church of Portland, or to Visiting Nurse Home Health Care, in memory 
of Mrs. Sears.
