Ionia Sentinel Standard, 23 May 1970

Silas Ira Sargeant, 77, died suddenly on Thursday morning at his Clarksville 
home.  He was born in Ionia October 21, 1892, the son of Silas and Mary Fuller 
Sargeant.  He was a member of Hope Church of the Brethren, south of Clarksville 
and Ionia County Pomona grange and also past master, South Boston Grange.  May 
18, 1918, he was married to Hope E. Custer and lived all his life in the 
Clarksville and Elmdale areas.

Surviving besides his wife, Hope, are two daughters, Mrs. Edward Anderson of 
Alhambra, Calif. and Mrs. Walter Felzke of Grand Ledge; five grandchildren and 
eight great grandchildren; one brother, Richard Sargeant of Greenville; three 
sisters, Mrs. Iva Miller of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Albert Harwood of Sidney and 
Mrs. Jerry Divine of Smyrna.  

Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Hope church of Brethren with Rev. 
Arthur Heisler officiating.  Interment will be at Bowne Mennonite church.  Mr. 
Sargeant is at Pickens funeral chapel in Clarksville.
