The Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard, Saturday, September 7, 1935
Mrs. Mary Jane Stout Riggs, 90, died at the home of her son Representative M. 
Clyde Stout, Ionia township, Friday evening, September 6 following three weeks 
illness.  Mrs. Riggs was born in Dark county, Ohio in 1845 and was the oldest 
of 12 children born to Mason and Sarah Jane Carter.  Following her marriage to 
Adam Stout in Ohio in 1861 they came to Sebewa township in 1871 where eight 
children were born.  Mr. Stout died in 1899 and she returned to Ohio.  In 1902 
she was married to John W. Riggs in Ohio and lived there until after his death 
when she again came to Michigan in 1923.   She has children here. 

Surviving are four children, Nathan J. Stout of Long Beach, California, Mrs. 
Ruth Jordan of Muskegon, Fred Stout of Grand Rapids, and M. Clyde Stout of 
Ionia; three sisters and a brother, Mrs. Laura Hubbs of Oregon, Mrs. Abbie Coe 
of Sebewa; Mrs. Mattie Townsend of Durand, and Frank Carter of South America; 
21 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Clyde Stout residence Sunday 
afternoon at 3 o’clock with Rev. J. M. Jensen officiating.  Interment at the 
Baptist cemetery in Sebewa township.
