Wm. McClurg and his brother-in-law Henry Ogden, were in a boat fishing when they discovered the lad’s body lying in about four feet of water. Geo. T. Smith, who lives a half mile distant, was notified and preparations were made at once for taking the lad’s body from its watery grave. Automobiles from Portland brought many spectators to the scene. Frank Remalie, the bereaved father, and Guy Stiffler, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Stiffler of Portland, took the body from the river. It was wrapped in a blanket and carried to the home of Geo. T. Smith, where an automobile owned by Chester Blanchard was waiting to take it to the local undertaking rooms. The body was in a bad state of decomposition when recovered. News of the discovery of the body spread like wildfire, and everyone manifested the greatest interest. Although the parents are grief stricken over the tragedy, they are doubtless relieved to some extent by their knowledge of the body’s whereabouts. Discovery of the body at a point six miles below the village proves the great treachery of the river. Fishermen and others familiar with the stream contended that the body would eventually be located at a point within a few feet of where it went down. It is the general theory that the body passed over the municipal dam below town during the freshet of a few weeks ago. A memorial service for the little lad was held last Sunday at the Methodist church in Portland, both Rev. Slee and Rev. Stuart contributing to the program. Classmates of Lynn went to the river in the afternoon and scattered flowers from the bridge, since no other grave could be decorated. Hope of discovering the remains had then been abandoned, and many friends attended the service honor of the lost boy. The discovery of the body only four days later brings the whole tragedy up again.
