Owen was born in New Market, Va. on Dec. 3, 1909 to Ada and John Mumaw. His family moved to Lake Odessa when he was three years old. Owen graduated from Lake Odessa High School and attended pharmacy school at Ferris State University. He married Marian Ester McGunn of Ionia on April 7, 1937. After a short time of living in Ann Arbor, they moved to Greenville where they have lived for more than 63 years. In addition to being a father, pharmacist, drugstore owner and real estate agent, Owen has always found time to be active in his community. He served as Mayor of Greenville for eight terms, 12 years on the city council, was a county chairman and served 16 years as a county commissioner. He was also active in the Lions Club and served as a district governor. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and active in his church. Owen is survived by his wife, Marian, and their seven children; Mary and Charles Reed of Grand Rapids, Richard and Marilyn Mumaw of Marshall, Janet and Allen Kelly of Carson City, Nancy and Michael Schreiner of Lansing, Thomas and Pamela Mumaw of LaCross, Wis., Jerry and Kathy Mumaw of Caledonia, and Betty and Mark Krauss of Grand Rapids; 26 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; a half-brother, Nelson Hansbarger of Lake Odessa; and a sister-in-law, Rosetta Magley of Haslett. Visitation will be Saturday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Sunday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Marshall Funeral Home, Greenville. The Rosary will be Sunday evening at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Charles Catholic Church, Greenville, with Fr. Fred Brucker celebrating. Owen will be in repose Monday at the church from 9:15 p.m. until the Funeral Mass. Burial will be in St. Charles Catholic Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made in Owen’s name to St. Charles Church Building Fund and Hospice of Holland Home.
